Sybase/MySQL DBA needed in Denver, CO - We Want to Talk to YOU!

Company and Project Information:

 This position is for a Production and Non-Production Database Administrator (DBA) within CWT within IT within the DBA teams for global database operations support. 

Position Mandates:

 This is an industry standard Production DBA role within a group of larger DBA teams.

 Must be willing to write and validate technical documentation. Must be able to precisely follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

 Minimum of 40 hours per week plus On-Call responsibilities involving after-hours nights, weekends, holidays, vacations and sick coverage for other DBAs.

 The Production RDBMS DBA must live and work in the Denver, Colorado area. This is not a telecommuting position and relocation is not available.

 Prior working knowledge of the travel business is a plus.

 This is intended as a 9-month contract with possible renewal. Hiring options or extension options may be considered anywhere from 3 to 9 months.

 Travel itself would be less than 10%.

Key Responsibilities

 The Sybase/MySQL DBA will provide substantial Sybase 12.5.4 and MySQL 5.5 support skills toward overall RDBMS production and non-production database support activities including installations, configurations, upgrades, performance, tuning, backups and DR, regular maintenance jobs, encryption and troubleshooting.

 This Production RDBMS DBA position will also encompass some degree of testing in pre-production environments. This DBA position will require participation in a Production DBA after-hours on-call rotation schedule. This job will require the ability to upgrade from several levels of back versions of Sybase/MySQL. Linux/Solaris Admin knowledge is an additional asset.

 The successful Production Sybase/MySQL RDBMS DBA candidate should also be able to strategize, collaborate, and participate in various monitoring, performance, and analysis tasks with the goal of performance optimizations and retention of the corresponding historical monitoring metrics and statistics.

 As part of performance improvements, the RDBMS DBA will also review SQL queries written by software developers for performance enhancements.

Required Qualifications

 Requirements Summary: This is dominantly a RDBMS Production DBA position and requires a minimum of 4 years Production RDBMS database administration experience. Although not a Development DBA position, the successful candidate must have an extensive working knowledge of UNIX and RDBMS Jobs, along with automation. SQL programming background is very valuable. Due to acquisitions and consolidations, Data Management practices will be part of the Production DBA role. The ideal candidate would also have travel business knowledge. SQL Query background is an additional asset. In addition to all of the above expertise, preference may be given to those DBA candidates who also possess proven production Sybase 12.5.x and MySQL 5.x skills. This position will require a lot of cross-database SOP creation and SOP validation.

 Experience: The RDBMS DBA must have had direct previous hands-on production DBA role for Sybase/MySQL within the last two years on UNIX/Linux/Solaris and possibly Windows (no Mainframe)
