Unix Systems Engineer

Based West Yorkshire 

Our client seeks to appoint an experienced Unix System Engineer to  provide effective, environments supporting their businesses globally. This includes the UNIX/Linux Servers and associated storage in a primarily Ecommerce based environment  

Key Duties:

  • Engineer and implement technical configurations on the UNIX/Linux platform.
  • Ensure SLA's & operational KPI's are met, working as necessary with internal and external support functions when major incidents occur
  • Ensure that suitable data backups are maintained, including cycling off-site as appropriate
  • Ensure that UNIX/centralised engineering, administration and support for the UNIX/Linux Linux security remains intact and assist with the administration of UNIX/Linux user permissions and profiles
  • Evaluate and install new software releases, system upgrades in a controlled, timely fashion
  • Proactively monitor operational status, capacity and performance of supported UNIX/Linux infrastructure, ensuring that they remain within acceptable limits. Ensure issues identified (including potential options to resolve) in good time
  • Maintaining and exercise Disaster Recovery procedures
  • Ensure high quality documentation for supported infrastructure is developed and maintained
  • Provide timely, quality estimates for any project work

Skills Knowledge;

  • Strong practical experience of supporting Solaris and Linux based systems
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and manage time effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels
  • Operational experience in the following:SAN Administration, Virtualisation technologies (VMWare), Backup tools and technologies, Scripting
