Role Summary/Purpose:

This role is responsible for design and implementation of Client heavy haul, power haul and transit locomotive power, traction, and auxiliaries control from inception through final product validation.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Own design and controls development for transportation Controls including function definition, requirements development, dynamic analysis, and failure modes analysis.
  • Pursue new technology and efficiencies in controls applications, operability and platform designs.
  • Work closely with systems engineering, program management, commercial teams, simulation, software and hardware teams in pursuit of advanced controls techniques such as MBC, MIMO, etc.
  • Lead the creation of controls systems component, hardware and applications documentation and verification procedures of new designs.
  • Lead controls hardware and software testing, full operability dry rig testing and unit validation for all first article controls.
  • Use Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies to provide robust advanced technologies controls for a broad range of Client Controls applications.
  • Facilitate communication of technical and business information between organizations and within work group.
  • Strong knowledge of test execution, requirements traceability, defect reporting, and automation concepts.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Strong working knowledge Matlab/Simulink.
  • Hands-on, willing to support simulation and on-locomotive testing & validation.
  • A passion for locomotive Engineering.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Experience with design and application of power generation auxiliary controls, or propulsion/traction control systems.

  • Controls domain knowledge in Model based/model predictive control or other advance controls strategies.
  • Effective communicator both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated problem solving capabilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and prior success in working with or leading cross-functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of the control system hardware, applications and software.
  • Working knowledge of Locomotive and/or off-highway vehicles and auxiliary systems.
  • Self-Starter able to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
