An exciting opportunity has developed to join a high profile client of ours, working as a Media Co-ordinator/Press Officer in Southampton. In the last calendar year our client responded to just fewer than 2,000 media enquires. Therefore the chosen candidate will be required to maintain and develop external relations on behalf of our client.

The timely and appropriate response to media enquiries is critical to maintaining the client's reputation and maximising opportunities to promote key business priorities and safety messages using both conventional media and social media.

This role will also have a key responsibility in advising officials on media handling issues, developing lines to take and identifying proactive opportunities to create articles and media features as required.

The post holder will be part of the 24/7 on call duty rota, responding to out of hours enquiries.

Key tasks

  • responsible for maintaining and developing media relations with key journalists
  • responsible for responding to incoming media enquiries using the media handling system in accordance with the client's protocol
  • responsible for identifying the need for proactive handling planning, developing and delivering key lines to take and dissemination if these key lines to media contacts
  • creating press releases in accordance with the writing guidelines
  • responsible for identifying proactive media opportunities and documentary filming opportunities;
  • advises on social media monitoring reports
  • Contributes to forward planning grid.

Qualifications and Experience required

  • English language GCSE or O'Level
  • Proven experience of working as a journalist or press officer.
  • Proven knowledge of traditional media and social media
