WebSphere Application Server Administrator on Z/oS - Mainframe

WebSphere Application Server Administrator on Z/oS required for a great contract opportunity

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building and management of WebSphere Application Server on the Mainframe platforms
  • Systems/Applications Management experience using Administrative Interfaces Systems Management (Admin Console, Scripting, ITCAM).
  • Troubleshooting/Performance Tuning of WebSphere Application Server applications
  • Ensuring environment has no single points of failure and is operationally robust (housekeeping etc)
  • Management and development of monitoring solutions for WebSphere. (ITCAM)
  • Liaising with IT development community to enhance and protect our HA environment, to provide them with technical support and to advise on best practices for new solutions.
  • Development and maintenance of operational documentation and specifications on system builds and SOPs.
  • Providing out of hours on-call support on the team rota.  

Required Skills/Disposition 

  • At least 3 years Mainframe experience working in a customer facing environment with IBM WebSphere Application Server
  • Proficiency using ISPF, JCL, SDSF
  • Proficient with the Unix System Services environment
  • Knowledge of UNIX commands pertinent to working with this technology
  • Application deployment techniques and procedures
  • Installation, patching, configuring and problem determination for WebSphere AS
  • Experience and capability in dealing with vendors for problem determination.
  • Proficient in data transfer (and transformation) to and from host systems.
  • Programming capability (experience in any language will prove capability to quickly learn local requirements in Jython/REXX)
  • Proven ability to multitask
  • Willingness and commitment to document work and operate within existing change management and project frameworks
  • Proficient with standard word processing and spreadsheet tools.
  • Sound reasoning ability together with strong problem solving skills and ability to recognise when to escalate a problem before it becomes critical
  • Demonstrates a positive, can do' attitude and is regarded highly by others
  • Is approachable and interacts well with other teams and departments     
  • Commitment to and good understanding of customer service requirements

Please note experience on Mainframe is essential for this role.
