Mechanical Design Engineer required to provide Mechanical Design Consultancy within the Electronic Systems area.

Typical activities will include:

Develop & Implement Design Solution - Develop design concepts, models and products for programmes and bids. Produce cost effective, manufacturable designs in accordance with customer specifications and relevant internal standards. Verify all mechanical interfaces, models and space allocation meets all mechanical programme requirements. Conduct and record Mechanical Design checkpoint meetings and reviews during product development in accordance with the Engineering Process with the programme team and appropriate design authorities.

Analyse Solution - Analyse customer requirements for bids and designated programmes to achieve and verify a technically compliant definition and solution. Analyse product designs and solutions during development to satisfy all mechanical requirements eg mass, thermal and structural and human engineering requirements. Monitor the mechanical requirements throughout the development of the programme enhancing designs as necessary. Liaise with programme Lead Engineers to solve/pre-empt problems on an ongoing basis referring exceptions to Mechanical Department Lead for discussion.

Design Verification - Check and verify all mechanical interfaces of models and assemblies. Generate Mechanical Test requirements and procedures to verify mechanical interfaces. Prototype and test mechanical parts and assemblies to verify new concepts and solutions. Complete compliance Matrix and generate compliance statements for mechanical requirements. Identify and assess risk areas, complete risk assessment sheets to mitigate mechanical risks on programmes.

Customer Support - Interface with internal/external customers/suppliers to resolve problems and answer queries, referring any exceptions to the Mechanical Department Lead for discussion and resolution. Perform customer demonstrations/presentations and provide on site support as required. Support both internal and external programme reviews as required.

Standards - All activities to be undertaken as per agreed standards/processes, for example configuration control, safety standards and risk management. Keep up to date with evolving industry and company standards feeding back process improvements to the Mechanical Process Lead. Suggest enhancements on current mechanical and parametric tool processes. Shall be required to participate in process group activities and user group meetings.

The successful candidate will have the below skills:
Demonstrable mechanical design experience including 3D solid Modelling using Pro-Wildfire.
Demonstrable experience of configuration and control of designs, using Data Management Tools, eg PDM Windchill or similar.
Experience designing mechanical aspects of electronic equipment (in accordance with MIL-STD-454 or similar standards).
Experience designing Cast or Fabricated Enclosures (eg ARINC 404A); Enclosure Trays; 19" Racking Systems.
Experience designing mechanical aspects of Printed Circuit Boards and Modules.
Experience designing machined and Sheetmetal piece parts, Fixture and Test Set Designs.
Experience conducting Tolerance Analysis and Interface Verification Checks.
Knowledge of Materials and finishes used within Military environments.
Knowledge of Military Standards, eg DEF-STAN 05-10, and Industry Mechanical Standards eg BS8888. Produce cost effective designs in accordance with customer specifications.
Candidates must be willing to undergo a security vetting procedure.
