The Role:
SQL Server Production DBA's urgently required by a multi-faceted, market leading organisation with a presence in both public and private sectors. This is a varied Database Administrator role that will require the successful candidate to gradually move into, and hopefully lead, a DBA Development department moving forwards.
Working in a SQL Server environment, the suitable DBA will join an established team and be expected to work closely with operations and the data warehouse / BI teams.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a stable, efficient and reliable database environment
- Recommend appropriate development best-practices and optimisation techniques to developers.
- Troubleshoot poorly performing solutions, recommending corrective action (e.g. optimisation, redesign, indexing etc.)
- Recommending design techniques that take into account the hardware environment on which code is deployed.
- In order to be considered for this position, the suitable SQL Server DBA must have sound technical experience with SQL Server technologies in a DBA capacity
Required skills:
- Experience of maintaining SQL Server data warehouses, highly transactional databases and VLDBs (2 TB+)
- Working experience of SQL Server 2012, 2008R2 and Windows server 2008 R2.
- Expert in query, index and database IO performance tuning.
- Expert in optimisation of SSIS packages, deployment strategies and management of logging and error reporting.
- Expert in trouble shooting T-SQL stored procedures, functions and triggers.
- Hands on troubleshooting database related issues using SQL profiler trace and Performance Monitor.
- Working experience with High Availability techniques (Logshipping, Replication and Always-ON)
- Monitoring database server health, space and utilisation
- Good understanding of various RAID levels, SAN solutions and capabilities as well as techniques and best-practices with respect to optimising disk I/O across multiple disk sets in a solution.
- Previous experience of benchmarking disk solutions and recommending appropriate hardware setups.
- Experience of database modelling techniques and tools.
