Description

Your main responsibility is to address major accident hazard in relation to electrical engineering. Using your specialist knowledge, you will:
  • Assess safety reports and conduct accident investigations and Inspections of major hazard installation;
  • Support enforcement action, including preparing technical reports and expert evidence in legal proceedings;
  • Provide technical support to other specialists on the team;
  • Develop national technical benchmarks and guidance;
  • Contribute to the development of technical and operational strategy;


The job involves work from home or office coupled with site visits.

Attributes required

We are looking for high calibre specialists who can, under challenge, think strategically, identify underlying core issues, and engage at different levels both with colleagues, site technical staff and at the most senior levels within an organisation. You will be decisive and able to influence those organisations to bring about improvements. You will have:
  • Strong communication skills to influence change at all levels in the organisations we regulate;
  • Sound analytical skills to identify underlying gaps and deficiencies related to risk management;
  • Initiative, and decisiveness, making sound decisions based on available evidence;
  • Good organisational and planning skills to manage your workload;
  • The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • The ability to write effective technical reports and to present complex technical information in a clear and concise way for a non-technical audience.


Essential criteria:
  • A proven track record and an in-depth knowledge and practical experience of both LV and HV electrical power systems, probably as an authorised person (ideally in the chemical industry, although this is not essential);
  • Knowledge and experience of safe systems of work, isolation and risk management;
  • A relevant degree;
  • Membership of a relevant Institution (e.g. Institution of Engineering and Technology) and registration with the Engineering Council as a Chartered Engineer or the qualifications and experience to gain membership and registration.


Training and development

From day one, you will be supported by your manager and colleagues to understand your role in HSE. In addition to supporting your continuing professional development, you will complete the Regulators Training Programme (RTP), providing you with an accredited Diploma in Health and Safety.
