Position Summary:

Under minimal supervision design, implement and administer Cisco infrastructure components that provide LAN, WAN, Wireless, IP Telephony, boundary, video conferencing and video security system services.

This contractor would work efforts for port reclamation and organize and recable LAN rooms. This contractor network engineer would also perform Cisco support as needed. This person would also coordinate outages.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
* Design/architect network solutions to meet business requirements, develop configuration procedures/templates, produce implementation plans and perform implementation of network solutions for the 8th District and FRS.
* Maintain network Switches, Routers, networked endpoints, etc.
* Provide Tier 2/3 support through analysis, diagnose, troubleshoot and repair data networks in response to service requests. Perform Subject Matter Expert (SME) role for infrastructure problem management.
* Provide local hands-on support for equipment in St. Louis District that is managed by others.
* Design, develop, configure and implement infrastructure hardware and software components.
* Plan and implement technical change requests using the Remedy system. Participate in change management meetings.
* Assist customers with the identification of new LAN, voice communications, wireless and video streaming service needs and represent the St. Louis District in customer technology planning efforts.
* Complete budget planning and procurement for new hardware and software components.
* Perform periodic maintenance activities (daily, weekly Sunday, monthly, quarterly and annually).
* Develop configuration and procedures to ensure compliance with approved security specifications.
* Document changes to the infrastructure and complete the change management process.
* Participate in inter- and intra-District project teams.
* Conduct testing of new infrastructure components.
* Monitor infrastructure utilization within the District.
* Conduct end user training for telephony components.
* Maintain disaster recovery documentation and participate in disaster recovery testing.
* Ensure capacity requirements are met for infrastructure components.
* Participate in system workgroups focused on network or telephony infrastructure.
* Practical experience with networking.
* Advanced understanding of the TCP/IP protocol suite.
* Advanced understanding of Cisco OS, infrastructure components and other related network technologies.
* Advanced understanding of the Cisco Firewalls.
* Advanced understanding of the Wireless technologies.
* Ability to develop and work from project plans.
* Solid incident diagnosis skills.
* Subject Matter Expertise in multiple infrastructure technologies.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple assignment to meet deadlines in a changing environment.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
* Ability to design secure networks from the ground up collaborating within a team to ensure all parties needs are met.
* The ability to design and configure solutions related to the following infrastructure components is required: Cisco Routers, Cisco Switches and Network Testing Equipment.
* 5% travel.
* Night work is required. Normal business hours would be 75% of the time, and nights and weekend would be 25% of the time as required.

Education and Experience:
* Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor s degree in computer science or network administration; or equivalent, including technical training in network and telephony environments.
* Minimum of five years experience with networking technologies.
* ITIL Foundation Certification.
* Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
* Advanced Cisco Certifications (CCNP, CCDP or CCIE).
