I am currently looking for a MySQL DBA to work on an initial 3 month contract.The Role
The database administrator will be responsible for the maintenance, optimisation, and daily operation of databases and how the internal application interacts with the database. Working closely with the engineering team in London, the selected candidate will:
* Ensure that the database servers are properly tuned and optimised to handle the workload offered by the application.
* Conduct a review of the DB schema and offer suggestions for improvements.
* Analyse queries running on the database to identify and optimize slow running/inefficient queries.
* Set up procedures for HA and failover.
Essential Skills and experience
* Expert knowledge of MySQL including installation, and tuning for performance
* Expert knowledge of SQL
* Previous experience of SQL query optimisation projects.
* Ability to understand complex business requirements translating requirements into an efficient database schema
Technical Skills
* Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems
* Knowledge of ORM tools such as Hibernate
* Knowledge of Java will be considered an asset
* Knowledge of profiling tools such as MySQL Enterprise Monitor or YourKit
