* Interprets and evaluates subsurface geologic/geophysical data for subsurface maps and cross section construction.
* Is the geological support for conventional and unconventional drilling programs.
* Updates structural and isopach interpretations from review of MWD and open hole log data.
* Interpret geologic facies on Hess-operated and JV wells.
* Prepares presentations, and testifies for North Dakota Industrial Commission to obtain well spacing, and field designations.
* Maintains appropriate digital databases, including Petra.
* Works with drilling and completion engineers to design the best possible horizontal and high angle wells.
* Supervises and trains consultant mudloggers and field geologists in order to allow for geosteering in the field with Terra Vu software.
* Participates/contributes on custom frac processes.
* Provides target strategy and geosteering support for multiple drilling rigs from landing to TD of lateral. Requires being on-call during all drilling operations.
* When needed, trains and mentors rotational Foundation Geologists., as well as foundation graduates during first assignment duty within the Bakken Project.
Experience with well site geology and petrophysics:
* Experienced in operations, specifically drilling and field operations onshore US and experienced with drilling horizontal laterals.
* A proven track record as a Production Geologist working in an integrated multi-disciplinary team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
* A strong technical background in operations geology is desired as well as classical development and production geology, including:
* Experience drilling and geo-steering horizontal wells in high activity environments onshore US with responsibility for 3+ rigs.
* Landing and steering of horizontal wells and ability to navigate structurally complex/faulted areas with successful well bore placement in stratigraphic intervals < 50' thick and lateral lengths > 7000'.
* Reservoir analysis and correlation in mixed siliciclastic/carbonate environments.
* The ability and desire to rapidly gain a detailed understanding of the characteristics of the company's reservoirs and fields, and apply best practice techniques to improve their performance.
* Well log correlation and petrophysical analysis to define drilling targets. Update operational objectives from evaluation of well log, seismic and engineering data.
* Experience with Petra and Geosteering software is a must, and Terra Vu and/or Petrel a plus.
* 5+ years of previous experience in the oil and gas industry. Preferably with an onshore-geosteering background.
