Description
Beech Brook, one of Northeast Ohio's premier behavioral health agencies, is currently hiring mentors to work with youth in Lorain County. A Youth Mentor is a reliable, responsible person providing opportunities for social interaction in the community the youth resides in. The Youth Mentor will act as a role model for youth that have behavioral or mental health needs. The Youth Mentor will work an average of 2-10 hours a week depending on the availability of the youth. Work hours are not guaranteed. Currently, we have an immediate need for male mentors to pair with our young male clients ages 7-18.
Essential Responsibilities (other duties as needed):
- Schedule and provide weekly one on one mentoring with youth
- Locate and engage youth in low cost/no cost community activities
- Assist with social skill building in the community
- Provide transportation for the youth to the selected community activities
- Provide timely documentation of mentoring sessions
- Share best practices and places with other mentors
Education:
- GED or higher
Qualifications:
- Previous experience, either paid or volunteer, with youth
- Personal reliable transportation is required
- No more than five driving points on driver's license
- Must pass an employment, education and criminal background check
- Access to a computer and comfortable using Word, Excel, Outlook
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to needs of different youth
- Must pass an employment, education and criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a community based environment
- Ability to work with diverse populations with complex needs impacted by poverty
