SYBASE DBA / DATABASE ADMINISTRATORMy client, a prestigious, global Tier 1 bank in London is looking for a contractor to join their team, for a rolling 6 month contract.
Role: Sybase / Database Technical Specialist
Location: London (City - not Canary Wharf)
Duration: 6 months rolling (long term view)
Rate: £550 per day
My client is seeking an experienced database technologist with a background in Sybase and/or DB2. The individual will have significant experience in optimizing SQL and more generally will be able to advise on architectural best practice. Experience of analytical databases will be of benefit.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate sound technical leadership. They will be motivated by their passion for technology. They will be able to manage the balance of innovation over risk, and act as a source of thought leadership within the database community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate's responsibilities include:
* A senior database technologist in a team of eight.
* Ongoing review of new and existing database technologies - POC/engineering/on-boarding/automation.
* System performance reviews and optimization.
* Partner with development groups to design and implement optimal systems.
* Educate and facilitate knowledge transfer across the technology community.
* Technical mentoring of more junior team members.
* Drive and manage delivery of complex cross-functional projects.
* Provide status reports, communication on project progress, resources, risks and issues.
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
* Database administration of Sybase ASE 11.x to current and/or IBM DB2 V8 to current.
* Sybase Replication Server 11.5 to current.
* Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Sun Solaris 8 and above.
* Perl & DBI
* Enterprise storage solutions (e.g. EMC SYMMETRIX/Clariion).
* An understanding of design principles relating to performance, resilience, security and cost.
* Demonstrable experience of query analysis and optimization.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience in presenting to senior management, business representatives and technologists.
* Some experience of team leading will be an advantage.
Notice periods of 1 month or less are welcomed.
