Beech Brook, one of Northeast Ohio's premier behavioral health agencies, is currently hiring mentors to work with youth in Lorain County. A Youth Mentor is a reliable, responsible person providing opportunities for social interaction in the community the youth resides in. The Youth Mentor will act as a role model for youth that have behavioral or mental health needs. The Youth Mentor will work an average of 2-10 hours a week depending on the availability of the youth. Work hours are not guaranteed. Currently, we have an immediate need for male mentors to pair with our young male clients ages 7-18.

Essential Responsibilities (other duties as needed):

  • Schedule and provide weekly one on one mentoring with youth
  • Locate and engage youth in low cost/no cost community activities
  • Assist with social skill building in the community
  • Provide transportation for the youth to the selected community activities
  • Provide timely documentation of mentoring sessions
  • Share best practices and places with other mentors

Education:

  • GED or higher

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience, either paid or volunteer, with youth
  • Personal reliable transportation is required
  • No more than five driving points on driver's license
  • Must pass an employment, education and criminal background check
  • Access to a computer and comfortable using Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to needs of different youth
  • Must pass an employment, education and criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a community based environment
  • Ability to work with diverse populations with complex needs impacted by poverty
