Firmware Engineer

Our client is on the cutting edge of innovative microelectronic products, ranging from consumer electronics to security and mass storage devices. This position is located in Cambridge with a company that have maintained their status as world leaders in microchip and consumer electronic development.

This role will require you to work on firmware that will directly enhance the battery life of advanced devices, while working to ensure the production quality of the implemented firmware is of the highest standard. It will also be essential that you deliver technical support when progressing with such projects and provide consistent feedback regarding your development.

Skills required Include:

-An in depth knowledge of software development, to encompass debugging and platform assertion.

-Extensive C language skills, with experience using a variety of compilers.

-Experience of boot time drivers, to include, SATA, USB, flash and Ethernet.

-An understanding of hardware SoC components and the software that is used to direct them.

-Project experience, whereby the software lifecycle has been implemented from design to creation and subsequent maintenance.

Desirable Skills Include:

-An understanding of EDKII or EDK and Tianocore codebase development.

-Expertise within system architecture, to include OS Kernel experience.

-Kernel internals and processes.

-Knowledge of assembly language.

-Any ACPI experience is preferred.

-Experience with Firmware implementation interfaces, such as Open firmware, UEFI and BIOS.

-An in depth knowledge of debugging tools for embedded software.

-A good understanding of time management, with the ability to work under pressure and remain flexible when approaching new challenges.
