Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Defines and executes on an EE/FW technology plan in support of the ICSP business unit business strategy.
  • Assesses emerging technologies in EE and Firmware and may determine how to map them into product development roadmaps. Stays abreast of technical developments through literature, technical contacts, and industry competition. Promotes continuous learning to ensure teams employ project management best practices and industry leading development process standards.
  • Helps define the EE/FW technology plans for the ICSP business unit and ensures robust execution on product roadmaps. Ensures compliance and optimizes product lifecycle and development procedures while adhering to all applicable quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Works closely with other functions including Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, Product Marketing, and Commercial teams to ensure project prioritization and strategic alignment. Provides knowledge and clear leadership in EE/FW development processes and developing a strong intellectual property position.
  • Ensures appropriate personnel management practices for an FW/EE engineering team of approximately 10 employees regarding recruitment and selection, adequate staffing, remuneration, performance appraisals, education and training, etc. Leads the EE/FW engineering team and determines the department's objectives, policies, processes, resource allocations, and budgets. Optimizes the technological competencies of the department against the strategic plans.
  • Drives continuous improvement process for design, manufacturability, speed, and cost.


Specific Scope Data

  • Provide leadership for a team of approximately 10 employees.
  • Support of EE/FW engineering processes and activities under the supervision of the Director of Engineering, IC/SP.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors in Engineering required. Masters degree/advanced degree preferred
  • At least 10 years related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Electrical Engineering experience in Diagnostics, Life Sciences, or analytical industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing engineering teams with an analytical instrument manufacturer strongly preferred.
  • Experience creating a climate of innovation and helping managers understand innovation preferred.
  • Understanding of the patent process preferred.
  • Experience with microcontroller design, debugging and designing of programmable logic in CPLD and/or FPGA.
  • Good working knowledge in the area of high resolution A/D and D/A circuit design including multi-ranging data acquisition systems with analog signal filtering and amplification.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the complex technical documents (EE/FW a must, other areas preferred).
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to senior management.
  • Problem solving capabilities decision making.
