Industrial Engineer

We currently have a fantastic new requirement for a Manufacturing Engineer to work on an exciting contract role with one of our leading clients. The role is based in the area of Hampshire and boasts an attractive rate. This role requires a DV clearance.

Standard Job Description:

The Industrial Engineer (ie) shall have a proven track record of positively influencing complex mechanical and electrical designs and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) that will deliver to the manufacturing expectations. They shall be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of Datum structures and also be able to identify functional datum features as designs are created.

The ie shall be required to guide the design team in the application of appropriate GD&T and dimensional detail to support the product functional datum structure. The IE is able to analyse tolerances to present tolerance stack guidelines for a given assembly or structure and shall be able to identify cross program commonality and cost saving opportunities.

The ie is required to guide Manufacturing Engineering in tooling and facility planning, provide direction to tooling fixture design in respect of locator strategies and key characteristics of the product design. They are responsible for ensuring all tooling conforms to the performance and duty cycle requirements of the process plan and shall be able to apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) as required to establish process performance and manufacturing capability.

The IE shall support Production Operations by leading or participating in continuous improvement activities to develop and optimise existing facilities and manufacturing processes. They shall participate in facility and equipment commissioning as required by Production.

The IE shall support the external Supply chain by working in conjunction with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Engineering to assess manufacturing readiness and performance for the duration of a given programme. They shall be able to identify manufacturing process risk and have the ability to provide appropriate corrective action and containment solutions for capital equipment, tooling and component suppliers as necessary.

Typical Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Degree or HNC qualified in an appropriate engineering discipline.

Required Skills:

  • A good understanding of GD&T with the ability to identify key characteristics and datum structures.
  • Experience of heavy machined components in alloy steels, large welded fabrications and vehicle electro-mechanical production assembly.
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Skills:

  • The ability to work with: Creo 2.0 or similar CAD software Minitab or similar statistical software combined with a good understanding of Microsoft Office
