Cognos Consultant URGENTLY required for immediate start

The Cognos specialist should be able to analyse business user requirements for querying and reporting of data from systems and fulfilling report requests. This specialist should also have experience with Cognos migrations and/or upgrades, being capable to configure Cognos Servers and has (preferably) experience with performance tuning also. In line with the Business Intelligence roadmap, the Cognos consultant is expected to develop an in-depth understanding of the data maintained within the data warehouse and application systems and how data from these systems are best organized and integrated to support reporting, business analysis, and performance management needs. This position has responsibility for the technical design, development, implementation, and documentation of processes around our Cognos platform for new and existing Business Intelligence projects and applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Works with BI Manager to understand priorities and manage teams back log.
* Review and maintains naming conventions and standards
* Review technical/project documentation
* Performs troubleshooting and provides resolutions to reporting issues.
* Able to configure/maintain Cognos Servers
* Serves as liaison between the IT organization and business groups and/or the operations teams in order to translate requirements into reporting solutions.
* Analyse, estimate, and fulfil requests for information and reports from systems.
* Maintain a strong understanding of business workflow, processes, and events and how these are captured in operational systems.
* Ability to model data (ie star schema, snowflake schema, data vault, 3rd normal form, etc.)
* Understand and write complex SQL statements on operational and warehouse databases.
* Develop and maintain Cognos 8.2+ frameworks to create reports and other tasks related to business intelligence.
* Design and create data extracts, reports, and support applications.
* Perform BI systems testing, including data quality assurance, operations process, performance, and usability testing.
* Perform tasks related to the deployment, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of Business Intelligence systems.
* Prepare accurate time estimates for projects, maintenance activities and manages tasks to meet deadlines.
* Interacts in cooperative and professional manner, with all levels of employees, vendors and/or clients, in team environment.

Candidate Qualifications:
* Four-year technical degree required. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, systems engineering or related field preferred.
* Four or more years of experience with BI techniques (Reporting, Dashboards, Scorecards, Cubes).
* Strong knowledge and experience with Business Intelligence Reporting tool Cognos 8.2+
* Experience with Business Intelligence Reporting tool Cognos 8.2+ migrations and upgrades
* Understanding of relational database systems and concepts, including experience working with Oracle databases.
* Strong knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL, including ability to write and troubleshoot complex SQL statements.
* Familiarity working with large data sets.
* Ability to grasp the link between data elements and business concepts and their relationships to one another.
* Ability to validate business user requirements for accuracy and completeness of proposed solution.
* Excellent analytical skills, research and critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.
* Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments effectively.
* Experience working on project teams utilizing Agile principles, practices, and methodologies preferred.
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to be both directive and collaborative.
* Ability to work autonomously.
* Experience with enterprise-level Business Intelligence applications and reporting tools.
* Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
* Excellent organizational and decision making skills including the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while providing quality customer service and products.
