My client has an urgent requirement for a Systems Analyst with extensive IBM Cognos experience.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The BI Systems Analyst Level IV function is a lead technical position in EIS. This position supports and should seek to enhance in-place technologies & technology users via defined procedures. The position reports to the BI Business Applications Manager and is part of a team responsible for support new or existing applications for Business Intelligence functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Take ownership and be a technical lead in the business intelligence area.
Be able to analyse business objectives through the detailed review of the user requirements specification (URS) and translate these into meaningful System Requirements Specifications (SRS).
To create and maintain clear and concise specifications using EIS documentation standards so that BI system(s) designs are presented and maintained at a consistently high quality.
Contribute to other system development projects relating to BI applications.
To actively participate with the development and design of reports and analytical cubes.
Design and implement business solutions utilising IS infrastructure.
Understand the demands of the Business Partners and respond to their needs. This requires a knowledge of Commercial and Financial business processes and knowledge of current and evolving technologies that could improve these processes.
Be an active participant in the training and development of business and/or IS personnel.
Understand the clients business and its systems.
Perform Ad hoc support both in developing specifications and programming as directed.
Resolve problems and understand the impact of all possible solutions so that the most appropriate and robust solution results.
Support existing systems by monitoring and providing timely responses to perceived issues so that the user expectations and needs are satisfied.
EXPERIENCE
Extensive experience in developing applications within an international, multi-lingual environment.
Advanced knowledge of the IBM Cognos suite of BI tools, in particular Cognos reporting versions 8.x to current.
Extensive experience managing SQL server configuration; designing database/schemas; indexing and developing complex SSIS packages.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Knowledgeable professional with extensive experience with IBM Cognos and associated analytical tools: Framework manager, Transformer, Analysis Studio, Query Studio, Business Insight (Advanced), advanced report studio skills; Burst reporting, multilingual reports, Creation of dashboards.
Experienced professional who has demonstrated having a detailed understanding of OLAP principles, who has demonstrable experience of designing and developing OLAP cubes on the IBM Cognos platform.
Experienced professional who understands ETL design principles and who has actively designed, developed and managed ETL processes.
Strong customer facing skills
Experienced professional who has used industry standard principles of data mart/Data warehouse design and has used these to design and build data marts.
Experienced professional who is familiar with and has demonstrated their skill through the use of employing HTML, JavaScript, CSS, .NET and MDX in their developments.
Good appreciation of other Microsoft server technologies, Office, Active Directory and who can use this to improve or employ unique solutions to BI problems.
Good verbal and written skills to communicate with the business managers and technical leads. Must be able to lead meetings and facilitate and translate communication between the business and technical resources.
Proven ability to provide realistic, good and consistent solutions to complex problems.
