Senior QA Engineer

Our client, a global mutual fund manager, has an opportunity for a Senior QA Engineer.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with product owners and team colleagues to analyse and elaborate functional requirements and to provide estimates for resulting user stories
  • Plan and execute functional and non-functional tests, adhering to corporate and team QA standards
  • Identify candidates for automated testing and create tests in collaboration with software developers
  • Work with team colleagues to resolve issues and drive items to closure
  • Coordinate and collaborate with cross-team colleagues on testing activities
  • Assist ongoing regression testing, including the support of continuous automated regression suites
  • Support identification and implementation of continuous improvements to test suites and QA practices.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Business or related disciplines
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience Quality Assurance testing on large-scale, complex IT projects
  • Experience in working across full project life cycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, system testing and user acceptance testing, preferably in an Agile/Scrum team set up
  • Experience with testing both UI applications and web services
  • Experience with building and operating automated test solutions, including both functional (acceptance) tests and non-functional tests (security, performance etc.), preferably in an agile context
  • Certification in software testing (ISTQB or ISEB) is preferred
  • Experience in the financial services industry and portfolio management area is an advantage.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of Quality Assurance methods and best practices
  • Excellent functional analysis skills, able to help shape requirements and create corresponding tests
  • Experience with tools for writing test cases, tracking defects and managing requirements; HP Quality Centre, IBM Rational Team Concert and Jira are preferred
  • Extensive experience of preparing, querying and analysing complex test data, including SQL skills
  • Experience with preparing and running automated tests, preferably in an agile environment; experience with Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) using Cucumber/Gherkin is preferred
  • To support automated test creation, specific software engineering experience is preferred, ideally in Java or .NET (C#) areas
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting, coordinating with others to achieve team goals
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively collaborate with colleagues across the wider team to coordinate activities and get issues resolved
  • Ability to partner with others in identifying and driving forward improvement opportunities and initiatives
  • Ability to thrive in a complex and dynamic organization, prioritising and balancing multiple work demands.
