FINANCE MANAGER - RETAIL BANKING - LONDON - £400pd

We have a requirement for a Finance Manager to join a leading retail bank to support their PPI provision model. This is a contract role.

The purpose of the role is to strengthen and be a key member of the Finance team which is responsible for managing the PPI provision and providing oversight of the financial impact and assessment of other retail customer rectification issues.

The job holder will develop a thorough understanding of the PPI provision model and assumptions in order to support the quarterly assessment of the provision, scenario analysis and business decisions.
There is a high degree of complexity in this role within a demanding environment. It is high profile and with significant opportunity for exposure to senior management in the business and finance as well as the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills, provides an excellent platform for career development.

Role Definition

To manage team(s) producing financial information for customers of the finance function, including the operation, maintenance and enhancement of a wide range of production systems.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage the production of relevant financial information for use by process managers, controllers and other managers and customers.
  • Agree with customers and suppliers the deliverables to and from the production process, ensuring these meet both customer requirements and the needs of the finance function.
  • Manage the maintenance and operation of financial information systems/processes, ensuring that standards are maintained and comply with all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor the quality of the data held to support the production process and identify, recommend and ensure the effective implementation of any necessary improvements.
  • Establish user requirements and support the testing/implementation of computer systems, ensuring these provide data which meets the changing needs of the business and its managers.
  • Provide financial information, interpretation, analysis and support to customers thereby enabling an improved understanding of the information provided, handling issues escalated by members of own team.
  • Monitor the payments process, evaluating risks and identifying appropriate controls to minimise the Bank's liabilities.
  • Assume responsibility for projects affecting the local area as defined by senior management, co-ordinating plans and resources to achieve agreed deliverables within the required time, cost and quality parameters.
  • Pro-actively develop and maintain working relationships to identify and satisfy mutual business requirements.
  • Manage, motivate, develop and appraise team members as required, so that their individual and collective performance meets the current and future needs of the business, undertaking the recruitment process as required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Part of a small team supporting the PPI provision model, and in particular:

  • Interrogating and understanding the provision model complexities and requirements
  • Becoming a subject matter expert on the provision calculation methodologies
  • Updating and tracking provision assumptions and drivers and understanding their impact as part of the quarterly provision reviews
  • Running modelling scenarios around the provision including for capital adequacy purposes
  • Working closely with PPI Operations and the PPI Business, developing and enhancing integrity and controls around the data submissions
  • Calculating and assessing PPI provision allocations for the various Group legal entities
  • Providing technical expertise and knowledge to the rest of the Finance tem around the provision and its drivers
  • Statistical modelling
  • Interrogating current processes, identifying and implementing improvements

Key Skills Required:

  • Applicants must be qualified accountants
  • Advanced Excel and modelling, analytical, Access and VBA skills
  • Knowledge of the Financial Services industry and in particular Retail Banking products and
