ACTUAL TITLE: Storage Support Engineer 

NetApp 
Areas/Technologies to be familiar with for troubleshooting and resolving issues: 
- Snapshots (Retentions, schedules, differences between types of schedules) 
- Replication Techniques (Snapmirror, Snapvault, vFiler Migration, NDMP Copy) 
Know the differences between volume level, qtree level, and cascade snapmirror, snapvault, and NDMP copy. 
- Protocols, configurations (CIFS, iSCSI, NFSv3) 
- 7-mode clusters, high availability. 
- Aggregate makeup and configuration. 
- Raid group size pros/cons. 
- Performance diagnosis. 
- Track down sources of IO spikes. 
- Collect and upload perfstats. 
- Check for known causes of latency in messages log, auditlog, etc. 
- Log locations, and diagnosis of issues using logs. (messages, audit, sis, snapvault, etc) 

Tivoli 
- Areas/Technologies to be familiar with for troubleshooting and resolving issues: 
- Client configuration, and log locations (Differences between TDP, and standard client) 
- Knowledge of select, show and query statements to gather information from TSM instances.
- Knowledge of how to write SQL style queries is helpful

Avamar 
Areas/Technologies to be familiar with for troubleshooting and resolving issues: 
- Client configuration, and log locations. 
- Knowledge of Avamar GUI for locating troubleshooting information. 

Day to day responsibilities 
- Provide escalation point for any NetApp/TSM/Avamar issues that come up. 
- Check queue/mailbox for any issues that have arisen. 
- Drive projects as requested by team lead/management. 
- Run with backup client/volume/vFiler migrations from a storage team prospective. 
- Work with BU/DCO teams on correcting any implementations that were found to be incorrect. 
- Provide environmental/audit information as requested. 
- Develop and document detailed plans for resolution of issues. 
- Provide updates to management and other teams on status of projects/issues. 
- Provide recommendations and work with Design and Engineering on any environment wide improvements/changes. 
- Open and drive vendor tickets as needed for issues.

Please note that the actual title for this role is Storage Support Engineer. The manager is looking to fill this role quickly. The priority skill that the manager is looking for is high level of Netapp support experience and skill level. This candidate will need to train/knowledge transfer to new hire FTEs
