Description

As one of two roles, you will work as part of small specialist team in the press office. They have particular portfolios with subjects they are responsible for offering media handling advice to Ministers, Special Advisers and officials on these areas.

You will need a proven track record of working in a news or press office environment and a keen interest in becoming a more rounded professional communicator, honing your skills in other parts of the communications mix. The make-up of the team means you will be able to develop your skills in all communications disciplines, from stakeholder communications and visits planning, through media relations and digital communications to staff engagement and internal comms. You will quickly become a trusted part of the AGO team, providing advice to specialist colleagues and will have daily close contact with ministers as the communications team are located within the private office.

Within this role you will be required to carry out the following:

  • Provide first rate, timely and innovative media and communications handling advice for issues relating to the work of the Attorney General's Office and Law officer's departments.
  • To build and utilise good working relationships with Ministers, key officials, other Government department press offices, prosecution service press offices and journalists in order to deliver on the Department's priorities.
  • Produce high quality communications materials for external, stakeholder and internal audiences as required.
  • To lead on contact with one of the independent prosecuting Departments (Crown Prosecution Service or Serious Fraud Office), keeping up to date on developments in cases and policy announcements and sharing as appropriate.
  • Deal with press enquiries relating to the Treasury Solicitors and HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate as part of the shared communications service.
  • Support the rest of the communications team in ensuring that the communications function is championed in the Department, acting as an ambassador for the communications team and its functions.
  • Lead on digital or internal communications within the Department, ensuring that the discipline is Embedded in the working of the comms team and champion its use within the Department.
  • Be a part of an out of hours and on call rota system with appropriate support from press office colleagues for which overtime will be paid.
