Description

Press Officer/Media Relations/Communications Officer required for a leading global defence company based in Farnborough. The Press Officer plays a key role in helping manage the press office and provide support to specific defence businesses. The primary purpose of the role will be to manage the day-to-day running of the press office.

Duties:

  • Write, develop, edit press releases and other content (online, backgrounders, Q&A etc) from the business or from third party industry partners
  • Issue press releases to the media and ensure it appears in all relevant channels (website, Twitter etc)
  • Manage, monitor and take responsibility for corporate social media channels and their content
  • Manage approval process with industry stakeholders (MOD,DSTL, industry partners) giving proper regard to responsibilities as a listed company
  • Develop relationships with industry press offices (in particular MOD and DSTL)
  • Manage media lists and photo library ensuring up to date
  • Responsibility for managing/collating media coverage and liaising with press cuttings providers
  • Develop key media contacts with relevant trade and local media for the industry
  • Sharing on-call press office duties, responding to media enquires, often from national or broadcast journalists on tight deadlines
  • Issues management; drafting press statements ( getting approval where appropriate) and managing and informing relevant stakeholders

Skills:

  • Experience as a Press Officer/Media Relations/Communications Officer
  • Must have to ability to be Security Cleared
  • Social Media experience
  • Experience of crisis communications
  • Experience of defence industry
  • Minimum of three years' media relations experience either agency or in-house
