Electronic Design Engineer

My client in the North East is a market leader in controllers and accessories for electric vehicles. They design, develop and supply electronic controls for vehicles ranging from on road cars and buses to electric motorbikes and mining vehicles, tow tractors and fork lift trucks. They work with major international companies.

They are currently have an urgent requirement for an experienced Electronics Design Engineer to design and develop automotive mobile applications.

This is an excellent opportunity to work for a strong company that values their staff, training and flexible working. Based near Newcastle, the area has a lot to offer potential candidates such as excellent social life, Northumberland countryside,superb beaches, Metro Centre shopping and good communication links with London 3 hours by train and the Lake District 2 hours away.

Job role:
  • Design and development of electronics for mobile applications
  • Full Life-Cycle product development
  • To work as part of a cross functional team with senior engineers, software, mechanical and production engineers as well as QA and logistics.
  • Supervise technicians
  • Work to company quality standards


Must have experience and skills in all of these areas below, minimum 3 years directly relevant experience in a professional role:
  • Design and development of circuits such as power supplies, battery chargers, dcdc converters or motor controllers
  • Familiar with use of CAD tools for simulation, schematic capture and PCB layout


Desirable experience and skills:
  • Design for mobile applications such as road, rail or marine
  • Design for high volume manufacture ( over 10,000 per year )
  • Thermal design of electronic equipment rated at more than 100W
  • Design to meet EMC standards
  • Design to meet safety standards
  • Familiar with design methods such as FMEA
  • Familiar with structured design methods
  • Microprocessor control

Qualifications required:
  • BEng/BSc in electrical or electronic engineering,
  • Minimum 3 years relevant professional experience since graduation
