Description
Company confidential, eh? Don't worry, the company matters less than the team we're building. While the company behind our (currently) primary app is located in Rhode Island with actual employees, we -- the product dev team -- are made up of independents who have been bonded together since 2006 by a dedication to making great things. (This is among several ads posted here, so you may have read this brilliant paragraph before.) That primary app I mentioned? Its web UI clearly reflects the design school practiced by the likes of 37signals, but it's never been about emulation. In our pursuit of simplicity, elegance, and usefulness, we've sometimes crafted the UI equivalent of a cover band. We can do better, but we need help. This is a web app that needs to be beautifully functional on all modern browsers (both desktop and mobile). It'll be joined by some companion mobile and tablet apps that, like the web app, are purpose-built for their respective environments.Instead of numbing your brain by listing the "required" and "nice-to-have" technical and design skills and experience, what's most important to us is that you have both the skill and the will to be a part of a team that's committed to making truly usable, effective products. Some detail that might be helpful:
- If we work well together, this gig could go on for years. (Two of us have been working on this particular web app for over 7 years.)
- Our core dev team will probably never exceed about 5 members, though we do have multiple small teams.
- The product dev team is composed of multi-disciplinary developers who collaborate using tools like Trello and HipChat as well as GitHub. We get that some people are better at some things, but we don't allow ourselves to be pigeonholed in roles.
- Our default time zone is Eastern and we're trying to center work in the Mid-Atlantic (to make it easier to get together once in a while).
- The core app is a CRM-ish thing aimed at a segment of the transportation industry.
We have what is often an unwilling, relatively unskilled population of users who would rather be doing something else than using an app of any kind. Our objective is to make it easy for them to do the right thing -- to give them what they need to know, when they need to know it, so that they can make the best decisions while taking the best actions.
Next, it's up to you to take action by contacting us. Share boring-but-important things like your availability and billing rate, but also share how you like to work, what you've worked on, and with whom (or at least in what sorts of team environments).
**Note** If you're from an area far away - as in India, most of Europe, etc. - from the work location stated above, your application will be _ignored_.
