Role - Senior Commercial Officer
Contract - Maternity Cover 12 months
Location - Newport

Outline

Responsible for supporting the Commercial Manager in ensuring that all commercial arrangements entered into by the allocated Business/project area are correct, legal, ethical and commercially sound.

Responsibilities

Reports to and assists the Commercial Manager to effectively ensure the Businesses adhere to the Divisional policy and procedures;

Manages and administers the contracts, subcontracts and legal affairs of the business area allocated by the Commercial Manager ensuring that all contractual, sub-contract and legal arrangements are commercially sound, legal and ethical and to ensure that the contractual risks and exposures contemplated or entered into by the Company are identified, understood and where appropriate provided for;

Responsible for contract, subcontract and legal agreement drafting, administration and management.

Evaluates offered contracts, subcontracts and legal agreements and identifies legal, contractual and commercial risk in all aspects to the Business;

Represents the Company to external entities, particularly in commercial dealings with customers and sub-contractors;

Participates in the development of bid strategies for medium sized prospects within area of responsibility and considers commercial aspects including defence contract terms and conditions, competitive pricing, credit risk, finance, collaborative ventures etc.;

In accordance with the delegated authority by the Commercial Manager (Deployable), leads negotiations for all contractual arrangements and acts as the allocated business area's authority for agreement of prices and terms;

Ensures the make/buy decision is supported and commercially considered and ensures that the risk and contractual exposure entered into by the allocated business area is reflected where appropriate to subcontractor arrangements.

Works towards achievement of objectives, operating within the constraints of pre-determined boundaries;

Prepared to be proactive and use own personal judgement within the role.

Education

Educated to A Level Standard (or equivalent qualification/work experience)
Good software skills (PC literate, Word, Excel, Email);
Degree (ideally in a business related subject or equivalent qualification/work experience).

Professional Experience

Experience in another company, preferably also professional experience
Some business or commercial experience in the Defence/Telecoms marketplace;
Good Business & Commercial awareness;
Possesses highly developed contractual and legal skills and knowledge;
Experience of working within a Security Cleared Defence Environment would be advantages
