Description

You're going to need to be perfect to get this job.

We looking for two people to join our engineering team for the existing SaaS insurance software, SchemeServe.

Ideally you'd be right at the start of your career, eager to learn, to train, to CODE.

We'll be building a whole new UX for SchemeServe, which means starting from scratch using the best tools and tech for the job.

Our new UX needs to be:
  • Beautiful
  • Robust
  • Single-page
  • Templated, auto-updating
  • Elegant, concisely coded
  • Extensively browser-cached
  • Routed so URLs are both human and SE friendly
  • Massively scaleable

  • About you...
You love javascript, can talk CSS and have built things from the ground up with C# and SQL, even if working with other team members. You love working in a team but also enjoy the challenge of taking a project from start to finish alone. You're hungry to learn more and want to find a cool place to do so.

You're proud of good code and able to formulate and justify coding principles.

You have a passion for technology, you like to experiment and learn new things, to find the latest tools and tech trends.

    You finish what you start.

    Things we like:
  • Meteor
  • Ember.js / Angular
  • Agile
  • Flat UI Pro
  • Sass
  • Bower
  • Mono
  • SQL, NOSQL
  • and of course... C#

  • But you may want something different: we expect you to be able to fight your own corner and sometimes that will mean telling us when we're wrong.

    Why insurance software?
Insurance keeps economies healthy and growing. Without insurance, people don't take risk, which means things stagnate. Enormous conglomerates, navies and ordinary people all grind to a halt when faced with too much risk. Insurance is important!

And it's complex, far more than many may think. Building online software that can enable 90% of the things that 90% of insurance businesses want, isn't easy. The thrill of solving such complex and moving problems before anyone else brought us to this domain. SchemeServe is quite unlike any other insurance software platform; we're already shaking up the industry but in the next few years we see an opportunity to affect how insurance itself begins to evolve worldwide.

    Who and how...
You'll be working mostly with these guys!
    http://www.insurancesoftware.com/theService/meet-the-team/ (choose 'In the hats')
(Yes, you'll get one of those awesome purple top hats; it's who we are!)

The SchemeServe server side and our JSON REST API are written in .NET 4. You will be working alongside other talented engineers to build new features, squash bugs and provide what it takes for the new UX to take shape, which will take "as long as it takes".

When you start full-time after probation, you'll be given 1 day per week to work on projects that interest you, crazy ideas you might have or just about anything. For the remaining 4, you'll be working on UX for new pages, PhoneGap apps for tablets and phones and perhaps more... there's plenty to do here!

    Times and places
Candidates from Cambridge, Milton-Keynes or Nuneaton will have an advantage although this is not a geographical requirement.

The time zone of team members is mostly GMT or thereabouts. Ideally yours overlaps by at least 4 hours. If you're UK based, even better. Throughout the year we meet up, sometimes in our office in Cambridge, UK; othertimes to meet our CEO in Italy. You'll be expected to do this from time to time; face to face contact can be invaluable.

    Why are we doing this?
The user experience is the thing we care most about at SchemeServe. It’s important our users can get their job done quickly and without fuss. This means building new features and streamlining old ones on a regular basis using the latest technologies; we need plenty of fresh talent as other developers move into more senior roles.

SchemeServe should feel fresh, quick, easy, fun, genuinely useful. And trendy enough to attract our favourite clients: early adopters and entrepreneurs who do big things in new ways and make a splash.

As a SchemeServe user, I want to experience a strong halo effect within the first 3 seconds of opening the SchemeServe UI for the first time, the ease-of-use and fresh look making me want to delve further into other pages within the site -- the “I want to work with these guys” feeling. For this to happen, pages need to load FAST. I expect to see something different when I look on my tablet or mobile phone. I want to be able to find the data I need without fuss.
