Who We Are
Since 2007, Quimbee has helped law students prepare for classes and final exams. Starting at $15 per month, law students get access to a comprehensive database of case summaries, video lessons, practice questions, and a legal dictionary. Over the past seven years and through sheer word of mouth, we have become one of the most widely used and trusted sites for law students, serving both institutional clients, such as American University and Texas A&M University, as well as thousands of individual law students.
We’re headquartered in Charlotte, NC, but we’re big believers in remote working. Our team is spread out among Taiwan, New York, and Charlotte. We don’t mind where you work, so long as you’re passionate and hardworking. To stay in touch, we use Google Hangouts. To stay organized, we use Pivotal Tracker.
As our site has grown, so has our need for exceptional designers and developers. We have had the privilege of working with some outstanding dev shops over the years, so our application has been well curated to this point. But with our application growing in size, usage, and complexity, we can now see that we’re in dire need of our first in-house developer. That’s where you come in.
Who We’re Looking For
You must be a senior Ruby on Rails developer with experience at all levels of the stack. From Angluar.js front end apps, to SOLR searching, to memcached caching, to Postgres tuning, and everything in between. Since you’ll be our very first engineer, you’ll have a lot of discretion over technical decisions as our product grows, as well as technical hiring and contracting.
Generally speaking, you should be:
A lead engineer. You’ve led a team of developers before. You know what you don’t know and feel comfortable delegating and contracting accordingly.A full-stack developer. You have lots of experience building Rails applications, and you’re also comfortable writing front-end code.A minimalist. You believe a new feature should be built only when the evidence supports it. You’re willing to push back when you believe this rule is being ignored or violated. A great communicator. You communicate your ideas, feedback, and criticism thoroughly, clearly, and courteously. You believe there’s no such thing as over-explaining or over-clarifying because that’s how miscommunication is avoided.
