Description

Scout builds hosted server monitoring that our customers love. We take a lot of pride in our product (making it awesome), our work (making it fun), and our co-workers (making them happy). We're looking to add the fifth human to our close-knit group.

So, what's special about being a designer @ Scout?
First, great people! Second, we place a ton of value on great design, so you will be a key player. Third, you'll have a tremendous impact -- you'll be be our sole designer in a company of five people.

What you'll be working on
  • make our homepage more beautiful, fresh, and on-trend.
  • help our marketing guy with A/B tests of the pricing and signup pages. Find out tomorrow which of your designs drives the most signups!
  • design visuals for features like our awesome dashboards. Help with interactions too.
  • re-imagine our highly-visited but tired blog into something fun and new.
  • Your first day at Scout, you'll deploy a visual change to our homepage, seen by every visitor!

  • Skills & Requirements
  • make great-looking designs in the tool of your choice
  • convert the raw designs to HTML/CSS
  • navigate existing stylesheets to incorporate your designs
  • contribute to usability and interaction discussions

  • You should love designing for data-driven applications. This isn't about static beauty - our designs are meant to be used. To showcase the underlying data in the most appealing way. To make interactions simple and obvious. To make using Scout a joy.

You should be a design guy/gal first, with a dollop of interaction designer & HTML producer thrown in. You don't need to be an HTML expert, but you should be open to learning. You'll have plenty of support from us.

You should collaborate well. We don't want someone who disappears for a weeks and then presents the "perfect" design. Rest assured, you won't be micro-managed at Scout. We're a small team, so communication is lightweight - no TPS reports required.

    Benefits
Competitive salary, health care reimbursement, unlimited vacation time, sneak out for a bike ride/hike on a beautiful day. Newest-model retina Macbook pro supplied.

    Location
We're a remote team spread between Colorado and San Francisco. It'd be swell if you're near those spots, but that's not a requirement.
