I am looking for an ICA Commissioning engineer for a long term contract, If you are interested please apply.

Purpose

To carry out / assist with control systems testing and commissioning (both hardware and software,) at client sites.

Field Service Engineers will need to have a good overall knowledge of products & systems, both hardware & software.

In particular knowledge of pumping systems (both clean and dirty) and configurable devices although detailed training will be provided in the specific devices.

To attend client sites to carry out surveys, perform changes and commissioning.

To attend client sites on breakdowns / modifications / surveying existing systems as required.
Location

The job holder will need to spend time within other office locations and client sites as necessary to deliver the function and needs to be prepared to work away from home as required.
Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensure equipment surveyed and reconfigured to provide optimum operation meets the project requirements, is complete and delivers a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure ''best practice'' testing and commissioning processes are adopted. Develop processes to reflect the hardware and software aspects of the equipment being used.

  • Have a willingness to undertake an annual performance 1 to 1 review, to attend and have an active participation in all internal and external training courses as required

    Skills and Knowledge

    Technical knowledge of complex projects, electrical systems including system integration

    Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation and with clients.

    Training required to achieve this role

    Manufacturer (Siemens / Pulsar / ABB / Milltronics/ Xylem etc) training required to enable configuration / set up of VSDs, Level Controllers etc.

    In house training in basic software principles, selection of PLC's and PLC system architectures, IO addressing and software interrogation.

    Health & Safety training - CSCS, SHEA etc required to comply with client site access rules.

    Hardware Design
    Integrate with the hardware design department

    Understand methods of hardware control (types of starters, DOL, Star Delta, VSD's etc.)

    Understand / develope schematic diagrams - starters / relay control

    Gain basic CAD Familiarity

    Understand control philosophies URS / customer tick sheets & requirements

    To be fully familiar with different styles of control panels / MCCs / Switchboards - Form 2, Form 4 Type etc.

    Components - Familiarisation and wiring of contactors, overloads, relays, VSDs, soft starts, level controls, flow controls etc.

    Wiring - Interpret schematic diagrams, methods of wiring, selection / ratings of cables.

    Software Design / Test / Commission

    Be familiar with the different types of PLC systems - Siemens / Rockwell / Mitsibushi etc.

    PLC system architectures - the quirks for different manufacturers.

    Comms Networks - Ethernet, Profibus, Devicenet, Controlnet etc implications / set up.

    Methods of addressing - both internal registers / external IO.

    Familiarity with the different types of programming packages - RS Logix, Siemens, Mitsi etc.

    Down loading/ up loading software - verifying software

    Software basics - develop understanding of software, ladder logic, function blocks etc.

    Be able to interrogate PLC software to assist with commissioning / fault finding.

    Carry out bench software tests (de bugging) - both in house and IFAT with client

    Site Commissioning

    Run through / complete Method Statements / Risk Assessments with clients, modify if necessary prior to commencing any site testing activities.

    Adhere to / comment on client commissioning plans.

    Carry out initial inspections - ascertain the installation is complete and ready for commissioning (obtain documentation from clients to confirm.)

    Ensure plant is in a safe state to energise / run.

    Carry out initial hardware testing with client engineers (energise the system, check all hard wired protection, manually run drives, check all instruments are wired / signals are OK etc.)

    Set up all VSDs / instrument ranges - check analogue values

    Check all IO to PLC - carry out a full functional IO check both digital and analogue.

    Check panel / site communications - networks are functional, all devices are visible on the network and the networks are healthy.

    Putting the plant to work.

    Keep accurate site logs / daywork records - liaise with clients representative.

    Be commercially aware - log / act on all variations.
