Description

An experienced LIMS technician. Who can participate in the set-up and implementation of a LIMS system. Who can discuss technical issues with the supplier and implement their solution, help users develop their skills in using the system. Support the adaptation, deployment of a proprietary LIMS.

A) Laboratory Duties

QBB will purchase and implement a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This role is intended to provide full day to day support to the LIMS company implementing the LIMS and to the QBB staff who will operate the system.

This means;

  • Assist in the set up, configuration, testing and running of the LIMS and help others understand how to use the system optimally
  • Participate in the design and implementation of Laboratory Work Instructions
  • Liaise with the LIMS supplier on technical issues

B) General Duties - as part of the Operations and Support Team

  • Provide first and second line support to all users of the Qatar Biobank (QBB) IT systems, within the clinic and the IT department itself. Escalate those problems that require more specialist support and resolve those problems in conjunction with the specialists.
  • ensure the IT system operates to meet the business requirements of the clinic.
  • support, and work in conjunction with, the IT infrastructure manager to maintain an efficient and high performing system.
  • maintain Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions to comply with ISO 27001.
  • prepare and maintain IT department records so that they pass ISO 27001 audits.
  • track all software licences to ensure that QBB's operations meet legal requirements and QBB's operations are not delayed or compromised.
  • build, configure and maintain PC's as required.
  • operate and maintain the IT problem management system. Ensure that all problems raised are dealt with (ie solved and closed) or escalated, in a timely fashion.
  • monitor disk space to ensure there is sufficient capacity for ongoing operations
  • prepare back-ups of the overall system, or parts of the system, as directed.
  • complete defined Start of Day and End of Day processes, identify and escalate and issues found and keep records of work and actions to satisfy internal and external audits.
  • support and participate in User Acceptance Testing of new and modified systems.
  • prepare a weekly summary and monthly report of issues reported by the clinic.

The person will also be able to help with general Operations and Support of the IT system.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Considerable experience of LIMS deployment and operation.
  • General Knowledge of laboratory or clinical systems (eg LIMS);
  • Experience in an Ops and Support role
  • Experience of working in small teams
  • Experience of specifying and undertaking testing;
  • Experience of working within ISO9001 and ISO27001 environments.
  • Experience of working abroad for extended periods.
  • Culturally sensitive, diplomatic and calm in difficult circumstances

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience of Real Time data capture from third party devices connected to a system.

Essential Skills:

  • Analytical and able to resolve problems including the root cause of system incidents;
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations as they arise;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure with excellent personal organisation and time management;
  • Excellent IT competency including use of all Microsoft Office products.

Visa Requirement: Must have a UK Passport so can gain entry to Qatar by presenting the UK passport at Border Control in Qatar
