Role Profile

You will be responsible to an Engineering Manager and be a member of a multi-disciplined engineering team, delivering solutions to challenging, technical programmes.
You will be involved with the design, development, build, testing and verification of various products / equipment, as required across the organisation.
You will create a variety of technical documentation for both technical and non-technical readership.
You will have core skills in software design that you will practise as a member of the team.
You will assist other members of the wider Engineering Team to resolve queries and provide training and other appropriate support.

Key Skills and Qualifications

Essential:
Degree (or equivalent) qualified in an appropriate discipline OR extensive, relevant and demonstrable experience.
Considerable experience of investigating and progressing client requirements to a saleable product within budget and timescale.
Experience of working with and developing embedded systems
Experience of writing reusable code in a modular structure within a shared source tree environment.
Experience of developing using C++
Python scripting
Experience of Linux
Experience of design methods, tools, techniques and supporting development software within an ISO 9001 organization
Willingness to travel internationally (NB This role is mainly office-based at our Gateshead premises, but occasional trips may be required)

Desirable (not essential):
Experience of system design for audio and video applications
Experience of assembler programming
Experience of various design approaches (OO, Waterfall, Agile)
Knowledge of applicable rail standards (E.g. EN50155, RIA 12/13)
Developing software to at least SIL1
Knowledge of the Subversion configuration management tool
Embedded C experience
Experience of developing using C# and .NET
Experience of working with and developing windows-based systems
Experience of working with and developing web-based systems
Experience of technologies commonly used for web development.
The flexibility to apply skills and knowledge across a number of different and quite diverse products throughout the organisation.
Good inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate to all levels within the organisation and externally.
UK Security clearance or the credentials to qualify for UK Security clearance.
UK Driving Licence.
Experience in the development of sensor systems / products.
Experience of working with and developing systems using communications protocols. (Ethernet, RS485, RS232, TCP-IP, etc.)
Experience of the whole product lifecycle (concept generation, concept demonstration, development, production and in-service support).
Experience of working on UK Defence contracts.
Experience of working on Rail contracts.
Member of a Professional Engineering Institution (e.g. IMechE, IET).
