Currently seeking an established Safety Engineer, to be based on site in Hampshire on a 6 month contract opportunity to be apart of a project due to run until the end of April 2015.

Due to the nature of the role and the time scale and requirements issued by the client, candidates have been advised to hold current SC level security clearance for this position, or be willing and eligible to undergo security clearance up to SC level at the clients request.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Provide the safety assessments undertaken within the assigned work stream, which will involve the following activities:

  • Review of safety and environmental requirements and policies
  • Advising on MoD/OGD safety and air environmental policies
  • Liaison with customer Safety Team
  • Participation in Safety Panel/Working Group meetings
  • Examination of potential safety risks
  • Creation of safety and environmental strategies and plans
  • Design of safety and environmental aspects of the emerging solution
  • Safety options assessment
  • Production of the Safety Case Report and supporting documentation; eg, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, maintenance and management of Hazard Log, System Hazard Analysis, Software Safety Assessment/Records.

Essential Skills:

Primary skill:

  • System Safety Engineering.
  • Suitably qualified System Safety Engineer (preferably CEng plus at least 5 years experience, ideally with Safety MSC).
  • Up-to-date knowledge of MoD Policy and UK (or other relevant) legislation concerning Functional Safety, Health & Safety, Product Safety, and Environmental Protection (eg, Def Stan 00-56, ASEMS (POSMS & POEMS), and JSPs 418, 430, 454, 480).
  • Safety and environmental engineering skills such as: Goal-Structuring Notation (GSN); Claims-Argument-Evidence (CAE); FFA; FMEA/FMECA; Hazard Log (using Cassandra).
  • Experience of developing safety management systems at all stages of the programme (ie requirements, production and operational), including the presentation of appropriate safety cases.

Other essential skills:

  • Experience of stakeholder management within the Secure Government domain.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of demonstrating functional safety within software intensive systems and associated standards (eg RTCA/DO-178B, IEC 61508).
  • Previous experience of equipment installation in military platforms is highly desirable.
