JOB DESCRIPTION - Roles and Responsibilities 
To provide technical expertise within a team focused on the implementation, service delivery and support of products, systems & networks within the assigned environment. Driving down incident rates and working with 1st line Operations to improve service recovery times. To ensure that all aspects of operability are delivered as part of the implementation process while ensuring that existing service levels are maintained or improved. Ensure full compliance to operational standards, procedures and best practice. This involves close liaison with various operational, project, development and product teams as well working within the Service Organization to ensure ongoing service and support can be maintained to agreed service levels.

Contributing to the reduction in volume of incidents for your shared service or specialist functional area 
To adhere to the release process to ensure product and services are released in a supportable manner to defined standards of quality. 
To deliver technical capability to standard and time 
To provide input to Technical Recovery plans, and to take part in technical recovery for major incidents within your defined area. 
To provide detailed implementation/project plans across multiple work streams. 
Communicate risks and issues, including following appropriate escalation procedures. 
Expectation management, ensuring all plans and expectations are well grounded. 
To contribute to the definition and implementation of operating procedures and operability on new and existing systems, ensuring adherence to Operations Standards. 
To apply technical policies and standards to the systems supported. 
To follow and embrace Project and Implementation processes. 
To ensure that appropriate documentation is delivered- such as, support procedures for 1st Level (and Operations Engineers within specialist functional teams, also for 2nd line operations) 
Operations staff, training documents, Service Level Agreements. 
To use departmental change management procedures in defining, planning and implementing change in such a way that service disruption is minimized, and adherence to Service Level Agreements is ensured. 
To ensure that software compliance is maintained for all the systems supported. 
To produce, contribute to and maintain documentation as per departmental document control standards, including support documents, project plans and status reports. To provide input to records, quality systems and management reports as required. 
To cooperate in coordinated activities between different external groups where required in order to ensure full support and information is provided. 
Work out of hours when appropriate to support major implementations or to react to high priority service issues. 
Accepts and conforms to plans and direction of the group, contributing to new initiatives. 
Broad area of technical knowledge and experience or an implementation & support coordinator skilled to a greater extent in release planning and problem resolution disciplines 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS- Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience 
Minimum of 3 to 4 years of Information Technology implementation or support experience 
A bachelors degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering etc.) 

Preferred or equivalent professional experience: 
Unix system administration and engineering experience, specifically Sun Solaris, Linux and AIX 
Communications protocols TCP/IP, routing and general networking technology 
Experience with HP, IBM, Sun hardware. 
Experience with writing Shell and Perl Scripts 
Experience with Veritas Storage Foundation & VCS 
Experience with SAN/NAS solutions 
Ability to exploit technologies to meet business needs. 
Expert knowledge of computer operations and their interfaces 
Experience in Technical Operations. 
Knowledge of Security and associated technologies 
Knowledge of Security compliancy 
Working knowledge of Relational Database (Sybase knowledge especially) 
Knowledge of Data Center design 
General understanding of networks and network designs. Cisco knowledge a plus. 
Working knowledge and application of TCP/IP. Should also be familiar with SNMP, IP routing and routing protocols, IP Subnetting, ARP, ICMP, and common TCP network programs such SSH, DNS and SMTP.
