Database Developer and Administrator

Skills:

SQL Server 2008 (development and DBA), SSIS, ETL, Large database experience.

Summary:

The DBA will work with members of the development organization and is a significant contributor to the design, development, and the implementation of databases a for the company's software suite. This role relies on pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job with general supervision. The right candidate will utilize current experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The DBA solves complex and interesting problems. The DBA handles information at the scale of the database from just about every area of computer science, including information retrieval, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements and tests database schema, stored procedures and SSIS packages including performance tuning of slow performing databases & presenting analysis of the system performance
  • Supports and/or installs software applications/operating systems/DB Engines
  • Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test execution, and certification of software
  • Works under minimal supervision
  • Escalates urgent issues to Engineering Management
  • Responsible for low-level designs and contributes to high-level designs
  • Act as subject matter expert in a specific area of responsibility for other teams (ie Documentation, QA, etc.)
  • Communicates design, reliability and maintenance problems to appropriate internal resources
  • Responsible for debugging, troubleshooting and developing technical solutions in the form of DB patches related to database code and setup errors for field engineers and customers
  • Creates workaround solutions when product procedures have failed and ensures issues are resolved in a timely fashion
  • Escalates urgent problems requiring more in-depth knowledge to appropriate internal resources

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in Computer Science
  • Experience with SSIS needed and SSRS preferred
  • Familiar with standard concepts, DB best practices, and procedures within the particular field
  • Provides effective communication with geographically distributed team members
  • Relies on limited experience and judgment to accomplish goals
  • Ability to work both independently as well as in a dynamic, team environment
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required
  • Ability to plan and control own work, this will include adhering to strict delivery schedules and multi-tasking
  • Must possess exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written
  • Strong time management skills with the demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Detail oriented and focused
  • Knowledge of various Software Development Methodologies (particularly RUP) and experience in all stages of the software development life cycle
  • Experience with deploying systems in disaster recovery models
