Computer Systems Analyst/Engineer (Energy Management Systems)

Location: Birmingham, Alabama

Our client in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a Computer Systems Analyst/Engineer for an exciting opportunity. This position is responsible for the monitoring and front line diagnosis and problem resolution of the computer based systems provided by the Energy Management Systems (EMS) department within our clients Services Transmission. These systems include EMS 2000, Spectrum Power System 3, Energy Logs Data System (ELDS), eDNA Historian, Offline Power Network Applications (OPNA), Inter-regional Security Node (ISN), and others.

Job Responsibilities

  • Day to day monitoring of EMS 2000 and ancillary systems for health and availability
  • Front line problem resolution and coordination of repairs with EMS Department Personnel
  • Follow front line problem resolution procedures outlined by EMS Department personnel in the case of system maintenance or outages
  • Notification of key customers for the coordination of system outages and events that may impact other critical areas of our clients Bulk Power system
  • Provide input to the Team Lead and Supervisor on continual process improvement and customer feedback
  • Thoroughly track and document cases to completion with the help of EMS Department personnel
  • Implement EMS policies to ensure 24 hour secure access to data centers containing EMS computer equipment
  • Day to day monitoring and support of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery systems
  • Successful background check and drug screening is required prior to employment
  • Dedication to work within the federal regulated utility environment - adherence to all FERC regulations including but not limited to Cyber Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements
  • Training will be required prior to system access being provided

Job Requirements/Preferences (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

  • Required: Formal education in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience in Real Time systems/environments and technologies will be considered
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both an oral and written manner
  • Ability to apply technical skills and appropriate judgment to troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks based on criticality and operational impact to the Bulk Power system
  • Ability to follow and properly apply both EMS Department Change Management and EMS Operations Center procedures
  • Effective written and oral communication skills required
  • Working knowledge of Windows based operating systems required
  • Working knowledge of Solaris, AIX or other UNIX based operating systems required
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with Windows or UNIX (UNIX experience preferred)
  • Working knowledge of distributed computer networks including but not limited to: Routers, Switches, hubs and Firewalls.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key customers, IT Helpdesk personnel, and IOC personnel
  • Ability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays as a part of a rotating shift with varying hours
