UK Based

Length: 3 months

Rate: Competitive & dependent on experience

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Petroleum Engineer within the Oil and Gas industry in the upstream sector.

Ideally, the candidate is results driven and exhibits the entrepreneurial attitude of the rest of the team to work on a work programme for an oil exploration licence application in Europe.

This is a Contract position with responsibilities primarily spanning across two specific phases of the project with a strong focus on developing a technical Work Programme for a successful application of an onshore oil exploration licence.

The successful incumbent will work closely with the Executive Committee and technical team; supported by a strong business development and commercial team.
The successful incumbent will thrive in working in an entrepreneurial and fast moving business environment where disciplined technical work, together with quick decision making, is key. As a flat organisation structure, the successful candidate will support the application process and subsequently play an important role in decision making processes and the future direction of existing and new projects.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree, MSc, in Petroleum Engineer/ Geoscientist/ Geophysicist (or equivalent)
  • Analysis and validation of geological data
  • Experience of developing a lead/ prospect sheet for the application of an exploration licence
  • Broad technical experience in New Ventures Workflows.
  • Experience with an oil operator, preferably with exposure to seismic sequence stratigraphy and petroleum systems analysis.
  • Experience of developing an in-depth work programme for the successful application of an exploration licence.
  • Experience of developing a 2 year training programme (to be recommended to the Executive Committee) for technical staff to be involved in the exploration phase of the project.
  • Evaluation of data and information to generate valid leads/ prospects in the selected basin.
  • Definition of development well locations, architectures and data acquisition programs
  • Experience of leading projects with similar scope.
  • Excellent data project management skills.
  • Assessment of hydrocarbons in place and associated uncertainties
    • Good knowledge of 2D/ 3D seismic process. This will be needed to propose a well drilling programme during the exploration phase (if application is successful).

  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and verbally.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team.
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Decisive


Preferred (Not Mandatory)
  • ArcGIS experience (preferably with current access to ArcGIS!).
  • IHS Kingdom experience or well log/seismic interpretation using an equivalent package. (Preferably with current access to IHS Kingdom).
  • Experience of using Schlumberger PETREL E&P Software to predict reservoir properties. (Preferably with current access to PETREL E&P software).
  • Some experience of mentoring and coaching colleagues especially non-technical staff.

  • 7-10 years post academic industry experience.
