Description

If you know what Moneyball is, then you know what we're all about.

If you're a great designer who loves sports and data, then we've got your dream job.

About Us

Every year, millions of sports fans turn to TeamRankings (www.teamrankings.com) for objective stats, rankings, and predictions. We publish thousands of pages of sports related data, from NFL matchup analysis to March Madness bracket picks.

The Challenge

We're looking to work with an experienced web designer who possesses both graphic design and UI/UX design skills. This person will lead the first top-to-bottom redesign of our web site in years, with a focus on responsive design for mobile devices.

This is a major project we expect to last for months, and our hope is to develop an long-term, ongoing working relationship with the designer we select to do it.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Update the look and feel of our site, with a focus on multi-device support
  • Create design patterns for presenting various data sets
  • Develop strategies for presenting and highlighting our top content
  • Establish design consistency across pages and products
  • Design an extensible library of page and email templates, content/data modules, interactive controls, and logos/imagery
  • Establish a basic style guide
Preferred Experience

The ideal candidate will have already:
  • Accumulated significant experience with responsive design (desktop traffic will soon drop below 50% on our site)
  • Designed complex web sites, multi-step flows, and user interactions
  • Designed for conversion and A/B testing (e.g. sign up forms, purchase pages, etc.)
  • Presented data-intensive content in clear and understandable ways
  • Developed an understanding of a variety of goal-driven design paradigms (e.g. how to successfully encourage browsing vs. drive conversion)
The Back Story

Take one look at our site and you'll see that great design has not been a top priority for us. That's not because we don't value it. From a business perspective, we've simply had to focus all our efforts on developing new analytics and products in recent years.

Now we're investing in a major upgrade of the presentation layer. Design-wise, we harbor no preconceptions. We're open to changing anything and everything in order to improve user experience, and we're looking for a skilled designer to provide the direction we need.

Given that we currently have lots of users, tons of great content, and ugly design, the right designer could have a profound impact on our already successful business.

Working With Us

We encourage you to learn more about what it's like to work with TeamRankings by checking out our jobs page (http://www.teamrankings.com/jobs/).

Most important to know is that we're a virtual company; all of us work remotely. We're also a small team (three people full-time), so we move very quickly.

You'll be working hand in hand with our CEO/product leader and our full-time front end developer, so extensive coding skills are not required for this role. However, you do need to be well versed in multi-device design, as we’ve got some tricky presentation issues to solve for small screens.

How To Apply

If this all sounds right up your alley, please:

1) Apply via this site (or send an email to ) and make sure to include links/attachments to the best work you've done. Links to your full portfolio or Dribbble are fine, but please see #2 below.

2) In your application, include a few sentences explaining why you think you'd be a great fit to redesign a data-intensive sports site. In addition, specifically point out the 1-2 examples of your work that you think best demonstrate your skills in taking on a design challenge like ours.

3) Let us know what your favorite sport is, and why.

Thanks!
