Our client, a large banking organisation is looking to recruit a statistical analysis manager to join a savings team that creates and manages Savings products for the Retail Bank.

The Savings team develops customer focused products which leverage the Bank's portfolio of brands. The team's products are deployed across the Bank's sales channels. The product teams are supported by function centres focused on delivering excellence in finance, risk, control, change, delivery and marketing.

Savings Finance provides financial and commercial support to the Group's retail savings business so that as a team we achieve our commercial goals. We require highly talented individuals to join us in building the commercial finance function in one of the banks key product manufacturing businesses. The finance team helps Savings deliver its business objectives in a fast moving, changing environment through forecasting and reporting its business performance and by supporting the development of strategic plans. Our mission is to develop deep business insight that influences the direction and actions of the Savings team to help strengthen its position as the UK's market leader for Savings.

Summary

This role offers the exciting opportunity to become a value adding member of the Savings Business Partnering team. The team forms part of Retail Finance. Working in analytics within the Business Partnering team allows individuals to gain a deep understanding of the underlying economics of the Savings businesses, providing an invaluable experience. It would present any successful colleague with an ideal opportunity to learn about many of the different areas that affect the financial performance of the bank.

Analytics within the Savings Business Partnering team has the following clear areas of focus:

  • Grounding out of economics across the range of brands, channels and segments we operate in.
  • Provide data driven insight to aid, develop and challenge the assumptions behind pricing and NPV analysis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving and delivering all the data requirements used to drive business decisions. The candidate will be required to interact with the Savings team to ensure that all data requirements are met and will need to be able to manipulate large datasets, using statistical tools to create meaningful insight.

Key Accountabilities

  • Identify opportunities to develop, support and maintain robust statistically driven behavioural models/insights, which ultimately feed into a number of vital financial processes including Liquidity Transfer Pricing (LTP) cohort development, Effective Interest Rate (EIR) calculations, Planning, Hedging and Pricing
  • Manage, develop and improve existing processes and tools used for the determination of Savings balance curves.
  • Drive the build of analytically robust predictive models to support propensity to take up various different strategic initiatives.
  • Analyse the behaviours of the Savings offerings by brand and product type and develop predictive models to enable the business to ascertain the P&L impact of changing behaviours and churn assumptions.
  • Provide insightful relevant and robust value added analysis as a matter of course in order to bring data alive, unearthing and recognising insights.
  • Monitor and support a range of processes and systems to ensure that they are effectively maintained and coordinated, recommending improvements.
  • Establish and build relationships with customers to identify business requirements and provide appropriate support and guidance

Key capabilities/knowledge:

  • A high level of numeracy: preferably a good degree in a numerically orientated subject.
  • Strong analytical skill set with ability to shape and solve complex problems; the ability to think through issues.
  • Highly skilled SAS programmer, preferably having used Teradata.
  • Experienced user of SQL.
  • Highly skilled user of Excel and VBA.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to make the complex simple.
  • Awareness of market and industry environment (commercial awareness).
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Planning, organising and prioritisation.
  • Knowledge of propensity modelling would be beneficial.
