Supportability Engineer for a leading defence client for an initial 6 month period. Due to the nature of this position, candidates must currently hold, or be eligible to attain an SC level Security Clearance prior to start.

Supportability Engineer - 6 months r - Defence

Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) forms a core part of the development of new products, and over the years it has become recognised as a specific engineering activity to ensure all the issues that could affect the long-term support of a product are addressed as early as possible within the product's project life cycle.

Accountabilities:
Depending on the stage of the particular project, the ILS Supportability Engineer will be accountable to the ILS Manager for:

- Scoping and developing the most appropriate support strategy.
- Successfully influencing the product design to enhance in-service supportability.
- Designing and developing the support solution for the product.
- Delivering all the mandated support elements.

To do this, the ILS Supportability Engineer will be required to:

- Develop strategic project support/ILS strategies during the bid phase, and cascade this through the supply chain, working jointly, as requested, with customers.
- Evolve 'Design for Supportability Requirements', and ensure the product design is compliant with them.
- Take responsibility for the implementation of contractual ILS requirements, through all phases of the project life cycle.
- Proactively work across the entire project life cycle, tailoring the support solution design to suit the particular phase of the programme.
- Carry out sensitivity studies of potential support solutions addressing operational use, maintenance policy, and through-life costs across the project life cycle.
- Develop and maintain the Integrated Support Plan (ISP) and all sub-element plans.
- Deliver the Maintenance Plan, and the associated logistics spares recommendations for the product.
- Co-ordinate development and delivery of technical documentation and customer training.
- Regularly present information.
- Attend Customer Programme, Design and ILS Reviews; to ensure ILS project drivers are fully understood, considered, and the impacts of any associated risks are reduced.

Skills and Knowledge:

The applicant will be expected to have:

- An engineering background, with a relevant degree or previous related experience.
- Supportability engineering skills to analyse the product supportability to develop and deliver a support solution.
- A comprehensive understanding of DEFSTAN 00-600 and international standards and guidance relating to ILS activities.
- A high level of competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Well developed planning and organisational abilities.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Good inter-personnel skills since he/she will be interacting with the Customer and internal functions (Tech Pubs/Training etc.)
- A track record of successfully managing some or all of the following ILS aspects of Defence projects:
- Bid work.
- Management of Technical Publications and training.
- Supportability Case Preparation and Delivery.
- Production of, and conduct of, a Level of Repair Analysis.
- Conducting a Maintenance Task Analysis.
- Obsolescence Management Planning.
- Disposal Planning.
- Knowledge of weapon systems, possibly within a Defence or RAF/RN environment.
