Job Description:
Specimen processing technician required for a regulated clinical laboratory. The position is to support DNA, RNA, miRNA extraction from clinical and research samples for use in downstream applications.

Responsibilities:
  • Sample extraction on both manual and robotic systems, sample tracking, quality control and quantification of all extracted nucleic acids.
  • Bio specimen nucleic acid extraction, QC and quantification, and accessioning into LIMS.
  • Perform all extractions and quantifications in accordance with laboratory SOPs under the laboratory CLIA license.
  • Run both automated and manual extraction of nucleic acid from blood, plasma, buccal swabs, and FFPE samples.
  • Adherence to biohazard, safety and CLIA protocols.
  • Prepare and retrieve bio specimens for storage, tracking of bio specimens using a LIMS.
  • Perform and maintain lab supply inventory and order as appropriate.
  • Perform equipment maintenance in accordance with Laboratory SOPs.
  • Record data entry via computer systems, including working with LabVantage 6.
SKILLS:

Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree (B.S.) in a scientific discipline required, Masters preferred.
  • Two years experience in a hospital based, clinical commercial or research lab, performing biological and clinical specimen processing.
  • Clinical experience will be considered.
  • Experience with nucleaic acid extraction (DNA and RNA).
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform and record data entry via computer systems while adhering to lab SOPs mandatory.
  • Previous experience with RNA quantification and QC preferable.
  • Previous knowledge of Universal Precautions.
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • MS word and excel preferable.
  • Must possess skills necessary for biological and clinical sample processing and handling.
