For our international client we are looking for a GIS System Engineer.

Location: The Hague
Start:
Period: 12 months
40 hrs./week

Within Technical Landscape Services (TLS), Subsurface & Technical Infrastructure (S&TI) supports the infrastructure for Technical Professionals in Exploration and Production operating from various locations around the globe. It includes GIS specific Back End services for the global Geomatics community, which are provided by a virtual team located in the Netherlands, USA and Malaysia. We're looking for candidates to strengthen the team covering operational support, service improvements and technical project lead related activities.

Main activities
Operations:
Provide operational support, with focus on day to day incident management on performance, recovery and interruptions related to ArcGIS Server on Windows Server 2008, web viewers (incl. mobile), ArcSDE, SQL Server and Oracle on Linux.
Act as interface between Geomatics customers and various infrastructure support groups providing operating system and storage/network support
End-to-end monitoring and problem management across all technical areas.
Work very closely with the customer to provide guidance in the effective use of GIS systems, products and services.
Application access, recovery & tuning, storage monitoring.
Document, maintain and improve service performance metrics.

Participate in global pro-active GIS service enhancements:
Plan and participate in global GIS Back End ever greening activities (new releases, security patches, application upgrades).
On boarding (technical, support) of new GIS functionality into the service.
Deployment of GIS Back End services to new locations around the globe liaising with hardware, storage & operating system component infrastructure providers and customers.
Translating customer requirements in infrastructure design and managing component infrastructure provider's delivery on new requirements.

Participate in new ArcGIS Server deployments and introduction of new technologies:
Contribute to successful project delivery within agreed time and budget
Ensure appropriate transition from project to support.

Knowledge skills and abilities
Must have:
Master's degree in computer science, geography, GIS, or other closely related field
Minimum of three years of work experience in similar role
Excellent GIS Back End application support skills covering ArcGIS Server, Internet Information Services, ArcSDE, Oracle on Linux and SQL Server
Very good IT Infrastructure skills covering Windows Server (and Linux)
Good Scripting skills in Python
Customer focused and pro-active attitude; enjoy customer facing, taking end-to-end responsibility
Be able to work with various specialized multinational support teams to bring complex requests or problems to timely resolution
Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written
In-depth analytical and troubleshooting skills on a variety of platforms
Be flexible, and willing to work outside of normal office hours in order to ensure that service and high customer satisfaction is maintained

Nice-to-have/preferred:
ArcGIS Desktop and spatial data type knowledge
Experience with FME Server
Project management experience
Experience participating in a virtual team of people delivering global services/projects.
Experience in multinational/multicultural enterprise
Exposure to the oil and gas industry. In particular exploration and production, preferably in the Subsurface/Geomatics arena

The successful candidates might be required to participate in an on-call rota and/or perform out of hours work.
