Position Description:

Overview: Work with a large group of passionate technology enthusiasts with great opportunities to experience the challenges and rewards of developing one of the largest sports websites in the world, NBA and its associated team sites. Opportunity exists for career growth, to work with a large cutting edge suit of web technologies in a fast pace, ever growing industry.

Projects include web analytics, streaming video, live scoring, template-driven publishing, design implementation, prototyping, social media integration, and automated syndication of content. The technology stack is a mix of platforms developed in-house, as well as an ever-increasing commitment to open source technologies.

Duties:

. Assists in the development of web publishing systems, applications, and micro-sites across NBA, NBA team sites, and NBA mobile.

. Mentors junior web developers on technical issues and modern web development best-practices and solutions

. Assists web developers in template development, testing, debugging, integration, and deployment in accordance with industry best practices and specific internal procedures and standards.

. Contributes to task identification and work effort estimates for development and maintenance activities.

. Participates in the analysis, definition, and scoping of new projects.

. Consistently meet or exceed project deadlines.

Qualifications:

. 5+ years experience developing dynamic web applications on Unix/Linux

. Ability to analyze and troubleshoot problems and guide developers in problem resolution

. Thorough understanding of the web, specifically as it relates to browser capabilities and limitations.

. Extensive knowledge of Unix systems, networking technologies, web development tools and techniques.

. Deep understanding of performance tuning, and troubleshooting

. Ability to mentor junior through senior developers in best practices for web development in a multi-tenant, high availability serving environment.

. Thorough knowledge of web technologies/languages - Javascript/jQuery - AJAX - HTML - CSS - XML

- 1 or more Server Side web publishing framework (ie PHP, JSP, Perl/CGI, or python)

. Experience with large scale data-driven web development.

. Analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as strong attention to detail.

. Good interpersonal skills, and written and verbal communication skills.

. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.

. Experience operating a high-traffic website with advanced caching technologies.

. Experience in all web site and application development life cycle.

. Previous leadership experience in a web application or development environment is desirable.
