SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Payroll Specialist contributes to the accomplishment of Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.
Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the Human Resource Manager and the Department, requires a high level of diversity in clerical and communication skills. The Payroll Resource Specialist is an employee focused position that requires a high level of confidentiality and integrity. This position is responsible for the payroll function; also helps with the implementation of services, policies, and programs and assists company managers with employee relation, payroll and benefit issues.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates the processing of the bi-weekly salary and weekly union hourly payroll.
- Responsible for payroll recordkeeping (payroll reports, time and attendance, and changes in taxes).
- The verification of shop floor data collection, inclusion of vacation and holiday pay as outlined in the Union-Company Agreement, and maintenance of scheduled deductions.
- Ensuring appropriate amounts/deductions/taxes/direct deposit/garnishments are calculated and applied to the various accounts.
- The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and confidential maintenance of all related records, computer reports, personnel files, documents and the HR filing system.
- Assisting with the day-to-day efficient operation of the HR office.
- Responds to departmental inquiries and issues related to payroll information and works to resolve issues and problems in an expeditious and satisfactory manner.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, including FMLA, FLSA, COBRA, HIPAA, Workers Compensation, and EEO.
- Additional duties, maintenance of employee attendance data to support the absentee program, may also assist employees with benefit programs, maintaining accident reports and processing workers' compensation claims.
- The Payroll Specialist may also assist in the coordinator of various company programs and events, such as employee picnic, lunches, recognition, wellness and the like.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of an Associate Degree, plus specialized training in Human Resources fundamentals at a college level.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a union/manufacturing environment.
- Must be a people oriented person with clear communication skills.
- Strong bias for action, ability to work in a fast paced team environment is essential, able to work on multiple projects, take pride in work and possess a high degree of flexibility and tolerance of change.
- The position requires the ability to maintain complete confidentiality, exercise varying degrees of judgment, independence and discretion.
- Proven experience with an HRIS system, Evolution, ADP Pay-xpert/HR-xpert and EZ Labor.
- Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Excel and Access
- A valid driver's license is required.
