Description

Overview
You're the type of person who wants to be personally vested in the project you're working on. You want to be able to come home from a hard day's work and talk about the great cause you helped with your software engineering skills. You want to be stretched in your skills every day while maintaining a sense of your own unique approach—all while working with a go-to virtual team that shares the flexibility of distribution while maintaining the professionalism of a high-end firm.

Join a skilled team whose integrity and compassion produces innovative solutions for great causes. We specialize in the complex problems by putting the user experience first and implementing appropriate technology choices and services to produce cost-effective solutions that deliver results to nonprofits and social enterprises.

In other words, we're big agency talent on a personal scale, and you're going to love working with us.

A typical day with us might find you:
  • Taking part in a 15-minute scrum to sync on sprint tasks
  • Going heads-down for a couple hours only to emerge on a Skype call to discuss an API namespace
  • Researching the best way to solve a complex problem and presenting your findings with other team members using screen-sharing
  • Taking a few hours in the afternoon to ski or mountain bike and then logging on in the evening to finalize a deliverable to stay ahead of schedule
  • Laughing at various jokes while producing efficient, well-documented code
  • Participating in an “hour of power” programming session free from distractions.

  • You’ll need these skills to pay the bills:
  • At least five years of experience as a go-to PHP developer
  • Familiarity with a variety of languages and technologies in addition to PHP, specifically Javascript
  • Exploratory experience in the depths of the LAMP stack
  • Experience with performance optimization
  • Familiarity with model-view-controller architecture and PHP frameworks
  • Familiarity with both relational and NoSQL database services
  • Understanding of RESTful API concepts
  • Experience with version control systems, specifically Git, as well as merging workflows, such as pull requests
  • Experience with WordPress theme and plugin development
  • Comfort in picking up new technologies like there’s no tomorrow
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for interfacing with both teammates and clients alike
  • Experience with planning, architecting, and estimating project development

  • Our smile will be even bigger if you can say any of the following:
  • “I know a variety of technologies, not just PHP!”
  • “I have experience with at least one mobile platform—here, take a look at this app I’m working on!”
  • “I’m totally familiar with the Zend framework and have used it on projects before!”
  • “I have experience with high-availability, highly-scalable systems.”
  • “Let me tell you about tools I have used to automate deployment and build tasks in the past.”
  • “I know how to optimize queries and SQL—and I love it!”
  • “I like back-end stuff, but I also really enjoy front-end development, including working with CSS3 and SASS/LESS, and using frameworks like jQuery UI and Twitter Bootstrap.”
