This is an intermediate level accountant position. Determine, implement, and perform specialized accounting under intermittent supervision. Perform work that is of average or above average difficulty and responsibility in connection with the preparation and/or maintenance of a variety of financial statements, internal reports, regulatory reports, statistical statements, and analyses. Apply predetermined accounting policies of operations and procedures that are relatively stable and established but can act independently to research and implement accounting issues and implement new policies and procedures within and outside of the accounting and finance (A&F) area. Performance requires the application of knowledge acquired through progressive experience in a professional position. Work is generally reviewed upon completion for soundness of approach, adequacy of judgment, overall accuracy, and quality or for potential problems.

Responsibilities:
  • Tax filing obligations with different federal and state revenue departments, specifically in the Taxes Other Than Income Taxes area which include filing property tax statements and payments, carline returns, surplus lines taxes and other specialty taxes.
  • Assist with plant tax depreciation and assist in sales, use, and excise tax areas.
  • In support of accounting functions related to financial/operational reporting, accounting research, maintenance of general ledger or plant accounts, budgeting an/or regulatory reporting requirements assist with the determination, implementation and performance of specialized accounting to meet deadlines.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams as a team member and assist team with guidance and direction.
  • Coordinate and gather information for decision makers.
  • Under intermittent direct or indirect supervision perform operations and procedures that are relatively stable and well established.
  • Consistently keep supervisor informed regarding status and potential problems but occasionally act independently to research and implement accounting issues and implement new policies and procedures within and outside of the A&F area.
  • Coordinate and execute multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Apply predetermined accounting policy for the area of responsibility.
  • Assist with research and implementation of new procedures within and outside the accounting and finance area.
  • Identify, implement, and test internal control processes and requirements.
  • Identify errors or problems with business processes or business results in the area of responsibility, determine corrective action, and initiate preventative measures to avoid future occurrences.
  • Provide support on special projects as needed.
  • Construct specialized analysis that includes other key figures in analysis for comparability.
  • Understand and explain business implications of analysis.
  • Verbally communicate moderately complex issues to others.
  • Construct written communication discussing accounting issues and describe the adverse impacts to other groups.

  • Looking for candidates who have more experience in tax accounting - specifically experience in state and local taxes such as property taxes and transaction type taxes.
  • Ability to analyze ambiguous and rapidly changing data, people and things; identify key issues and draw logical conclusions.

Required Minimal Experience:
  • At Minimum, at least 1 year of recent tax accounting experience.
  • 3+ years - Basic understanding of accounting and regulatory theory, and ability to facilitate the preparation and use of accounting reports and statistical analyses.
  • 3+ years - Knowledge of the basic principles of computer systems and applications.
  • 3+ years - Minimum 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Tax accounting & Tax compliance experience

  • Bachelors Degree; Required.
