For our client we are recruiting a Field Engineer. The clients's main business is the design and implementation of mission-critical digital mobile communications systems for professional users such as public safety organisations, major industrial complexes, utilities and public transport. With the growth of data services, fixed and mobile wireless networks optimised for applications such as live mobile video transmission are supplementing the core activities of voice and narrowband data systems.

Projects are varied in scope, ranging from a single-site installation for an industrial facility, to a turnkey nationwide police communications system costing tens or hundreds of millions of dollars.

Primary purpose of the position
The Field Engineer is responsible for the Installation, commissioning and support of the systems deployed by our client. As such he/she will be responsible for performing Site Surveys, Remote Site Installations, Master Switching Office Installations, Commissioning, Documentation, Acceptance Testing Optimization and system support.

Main duties of the position

  • Maintaining Customers' radio systems to factory specifications.
  • Perform Site surveys and produce Site Survey reports
  • Perform Inventories
  • Perform Installation and commissioning
  • Site acceptance Testing
  • Interface with the Support Centre
  • Investigation and resolution of any issues and maintain ownership until closure
  • Work with the Motorola FPM who would be responsible for day to day task assignment
  • Project reporting, weekly reports on progress and issues discovered in the field
  • Telephone support to specific customers.
  • Ability to provide work supervision and subcontractor management
  • Post-acceptance system and warranty issues.
  • User training to Customers and Dealers.
  • Document systems as installed or modified via "As Built Drawings".
  • Field support of Product Group issues.

Language skills
Fluency in French and English (both oral and written) is essential for this role

Education
Minimum 3-year qualification at an institute of higher learning.

Desired experience

  • Evaluate technical problems and work to create an equitable resolution to both customer and Motorola.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability.
  • Ability to travel, at times extensively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Creative problem solving abilities.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Utilise strong people skills, diplomacy and professionalism to deal with tense situations and short time frames.
  • Computer Literate.
  • At least 2 years field experience in supporting, install and commissioning radio systems.
  • Experience with Motorola products and their support structures.
  • Experience in radio trunking both analog and digital, TETRA experience would be an advantage.
  • Experience in public safety communication systems.
  • Significant experience in electronics and RF communications.
  • LAN and WAN troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience in troubleshooting RF cables, connectors and antennas.
