Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Scrum Master is to work with technical and non-technical teams to guide and support them in agile processes. The Scrum Master is responsible for ensuring that the teams adhere to agile/scrum. In addition, the Scrum Master will contribute to the department-wide rollout of agile methodologies by contributing to training and coaching of team members and management.

The Scrum Master supports and works closely with other agile practitioners and line managers to ensure alignment and standardization of agile practices and team deliverables.

The key measure of success in this role will be the continuous improvement of agile teams, measured by increased velocity and team member satisfaction. The management and adaptation of agile methodologies for specific programs or initiatives should result in reduced time to market.

Main Responsibilities

  • Organize and conduct sprint planning meetings, sprint retrospectives, product demos and daily scrums.
  • Partner with Product Owners to achieve high-quality and timely deliverables based on highest business value.
  • Manage sprint planning and execution, including providing clear visibility into sprint status.
  • Participate in release planning and scheduling by providing scrum team statistics, identifying project dependencies, and creating velocity forecasts.
  • Ensure high throughput of development teams by identifying and mitigating potential issues and roadblocks.
  • Work with project stakeholders ensure product backlog is prioritized, groomed, and detailed to avoid any downtime, ambiguity or rework.
  • Facilitate issue resolution within the team, including sheltering scrum team from outside influences or diversions.
  • Assist with backlog maintenance and prioritization of incident resolution.
  • Coach scrum team members in making appropriate commitments through story selection and task definition.
  • Create and maintain sprint and release burn downs, velocity metrics and projections, and forecasts in order to demonstrate visibility and enable timely adjustments.
  • Occasional travel within Europe may be required.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • HBO/degree level or equivalent experience in software development and Deployment.
  • At least 5 years' experience in one or more aspects of Information Technology Deployment (software design/development, IT architecture, project or programme management). Experience in the telecommunications, broadband or OSS/BSS domains a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of agile principles and value-based Deployment; minimum of 2 years hands-on experience with agile, scrum or lean methodologies.
  • Extensive experience with SDLC.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills (the ability to converse with, enthuse and influence team members and peers).
  • Resilient, self-motivated and proactive and able to work with speed and accuracy to deadlines. Positive "can do" attitude

Desirable

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and/or Certified Product Owner (CPO) accreditation; or equivalent experience as a Scrum Master.
  • Fluent English speaker, ideally other European languages.
