Software Test Engineer

Daily Rate Contract - 6 months with strong probability of extension.

Great opportunity to join one of Ireland's largest custom software development organisations. My client is seeking a QA Test Engineer to join one of their many development teams tasked with creating .NET and Java based applications. The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong desire to develop your own knowledge by keeping abreast of testing tools and techniques, attending workshops and reviewing technical publications.

Reporting directly to the Project Manager the success candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Creating comprehensive Test Cases that cover all aspects of functionality in a Web based application.
  • Developing an understanding of client business terminology, practice and procedures within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Developing knowledge of the client's business model to assist in Requirement validation.
  • Working closely with the Development team on a daily basis to ensure timely resolution of defects.
  • Liaising with Business Analysts/Business Users if requirements are unclear.
  • Executing System Test plans and Regression Test plans within agreed timescales and standards.
  • Testing complex areas of Web based application(s) and using business knowledge to determine if functionality is correct.
  • Investigating and documenting defects in a defect-tracking system and verifying resolutions to ensure prompt closure of all defects.
  • Ensuring that all assigned Development Test tasks are run to agreed schedules and to an acceptable level of quality.
  • Communicating project testing status, and red/yellow flags, which might interfere with the achievement of project milestones.
  • Contributing to the creation of functional, regression, performance and load/stress test suites and adhere to the test methodologies used within the company.
  • Assisting in the day-to-day Test team functions in an Agile Development environment.

Essential Skills

  • 3rd level degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of Software Test experience.
  • Strong testing background with experience writing test plans and test procedures.
  • Experience with Test Automation Tools, Visual Studio Team System (Test Edition), Selenium (WebDriver) or similar tools.
  • Experience in the use of Defect Tracking tools like Microsoft TFS
  • Experience testing browser applications preferred

Desired Skills:

  • Competency in the use of test automation tools to maximise productivity during the regression testing and smoke testing phases of the project.
  • Experience of structured testing methods and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and .NET and/or Java advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in an Agile Development team environment.
